Watches of a myriad shapes have existed since pretty much the times of Cartier trying to make flying a less deadly experience for his friend Santos Dumont by making sure he at least did not fumble around with a pocket watch.

But truly fascinating - at least to my eyes...

Not the best but it shows the watch a bit better!

I have a square watch (IWC) and I like the way it looks, but there is no escaping the fact that watch hands move in a circle. When I look at the part of the dial that actually is involved in reading the time, it is quite small. Thus, I get relatively little legibility in relation to the size of the watch. In earlier days that might not have bothered me, but in the second half century of my life legibility is a major consideration.

And I suppose I would have figured that aspect out for myself Good point, well made!

Also my Urwerk is a kind of square watch




There are also brands that primeraly make tonneau cases (RM , FM etc) and i do love that cases as well but must admit that most of my watches do have a round case .

The Urwerk - great as it is - is something we occasionally see here The CvdK in this version is new to me Really like both!

In my opinion, one of the most beautiful square cases, is that of the original Daniel Roth (those of the early 90s designed by Roth in person) and the case that creates today with the JDN brand.

The favourite square (tonneau) Watch I’ve ever owned is the GO Senator Karee Perpetual (now living with my brother).

Hi Having something with straight lines instead of curves has a different appeal. I've got one of the obvious choices



Despite its rectangular shape - there's an awful lot of curves present! A couple of my squarish watches - predictably both alarms.

Seiko Bellmatic Both very much of their era too. One contemporary one that I keep looking at is the Nomos Tetra. Comes in a range of sizes & colours. Particularly distracted by the green one at the moment. Cheers JML
