We've seen the 5177 a lot here and it is gorgeous (date aside), but I have no idea if they still have it in current production. Some of their other enamel work is also impressive, though I doubt it runs below 17k.... 

Which 56 exactly?

My understanding movement is made by Horlogere Valfleurier (Richemont) finished by VC. I personally like the blue dial on ss bracelet 56 model.

Not sure about timelines, but an Octo Finissimo would be *amazing* in that range (or in any range! ;-) Again, the choice is broad, and the "research" itself of this piece could be fascinating...

Quick currency conversion would be slightly over 17k CHF but…full Geneva seal movement and case, wearable stainless steel and a lifetime of indémodable unpretentious class on his wrist.

My understanding is the red version has just been discontinued. I also like the blue but perhaps a new colour is coming 🤔

I wanted to treat my brother with a watch he’d never purchase for himself and, like your friend, I started off by putting together a slate of what I thought he’d like. But then I paused. I thought this is a big purchase and one that will not be repeated anytime soon, so it is important it’s a watch my brother is delighted with. So I brought him in on my plans. Not to get too sentimental, but it was a very touching moment. I told him how much I loved him, how proud of him I was and how much I wanted him to have a wonderful watch of his choice. We could have a lot of fun shopping for it together and it was something that would bond us for life, whose credit card was used was of little consequence. So that’s what we did. And I’m so glad! Because what my brother chose for himself was VERY different than the slate I’d put together for him. And he chose a great piece for himself and wears it every day. So my counsel to your friend is give some thought into bringing his brother into the picture sooner rather than later and making the whole purchase a unique brotherly experience.

Thats great input. I d like to thank you here for sharing your story and giving some advise to me for sharing with my friend. i leave it up to him, how he wants to handle this, but i will definitely share your thoughts with him!
