I find it amusing that the tank has always been a dress watch, but the reverso (which has a similar look) was once considered a sports watch. š

JLC makes its own movements and has supplied other manufacturers for a long time.
Cartier only much later manufactured its own movements.

Its been around longer, unbroken in lineage, is more historically important, and has significantly more iterations that give each owner their own flavor.
And they wear much more svelte than a Reverso, even if you want a reversing feature.
