Patek 3940 VS ?
Putting this in the general sub forum because it’s not patek specific I guess.
Anyways, I’m strongly considering the newest gen 3940 with the exhibition caseback.
I like how clean the aesthetic is and the sleek case work.
Would probably opt for yellow gold.
Are there any other calendar + moonphase watches I should consider?
Blancpain has watches like that but they all have Roman numerals which are pretty gross.
Was considering Breguet too but I have had a lot of them.
Anything else? I’m ok going solid caseback and a lower price point too. What I really love is the overall aesthetic + case.
Vacheron 43031 has somewhat similar layout but straighter lugs. Or, you can throw in a chrono complication and go for the 49005. 36 and 38mm respectively. Credit to MrWatchley and the Keystone.

They are nice though. But I think if going for straight lugs I’ll revert to Breguet and pick up some delicious guilloche
VC's month display would be a deal-breaker for me
It is hard enough to read a perpetual calendar with only 12 months printed on a sub-dial. Having 48 months on the sub-dial is a bit over the top...
You Cannot Go Wrong
The Patek Philippe 3940 is one of the classic watches. I wore one as a daily wearer for over ten years. They are just fantastic time pieces that are durable, reliable and wonderfully discreet. Definitely NOT the watch for you if getting attention is a priority. After ten years it was still serving me extremely well, but I wanted to move on to something else. I miss it sometimes.

After ten years of daily wear, I wanted to try another watch. Nothing against the 3940 . They are truly excellent timepieces and practical as well.
Patek 5039
Less clean and sleek but more personality (and obviously equal quality) at lower cost. I've been considering one myself!
