As much as I love the 5101, it's difficult to wear without a large wrist. They only appear to be of similar size when photographed together; ergonomics of a long rectangular case put it out of reach for many.

I find it unfortunate that the rectangular case of the 5101 is too long for most wrists because, design wise, it is so full of charm.
But the LF is really great too.

To wear regularly, the LF. The PP shaped 10-day movement is incredible, but perhaps too big for me. 

And I regret it because I find this shaped case full of charm (and, thanks to the 5098P, I know how incredibly pleasing wearing a shaped case can be).
But the LF is great too in its own way.

I prefer the shape, the winding, the hands - although the 5101 mechanism is impressive, visually I find the mechanism far more engaging on the LF.

Also not a fan of the writing on the dial - but this applies to both references, so it’s a bit of a draw for me (the Patek would look far cleaner without both “10 Days” and “Tourbillon”, although it is more coherently done as labels for the two subdials, effectively - while the writing on the LF is pointless). At least the LF writing is in a subtle grey…

I also understand your preference for the LF very well.
I just find shaped watches very attractive, but the 5101 is probably far too long lug-to-lug (51.7 mm) for my wrist.

Just trying to understand your choice.
I’m personally not into sports watches, so I prefer this Classic Tourbillon with traditional finishing instead of the modern ruthenium finishing of the Grand Sport Tourbillon. But it’s just my taste and I fully understand the appeal of the Grand Sport.

My interest in haute (with the exception perhaps of MB&F) is experiential. The zeitgeist of LF is more interesting to me than the classical legacy of Patek…

And the particular Grand Sport you are showing looks great.

The design of the 5101 is strong and a bit massive, very different from the smooth pebble case of the LF.

the Patek for case and dial design but the Laurent Ferrier for wearability because the Patek is actually too long for most wrists. Movement wise, they tie in my opinion.

Of course both watches are beautiful. I myself had the similar dilemma and I strongly think 5101 is a more interesting option.

1) Shape. I suppose the rectangular shape is more interesting than a round one? Why? I suppose that you have at least several round watches so one more round watch doesn’t bring much to the collection. But a nice looking shaped watch always makes a collection more complete.
Winner: 5101

2. Desing. LF is a classical and very refined watch. That’s cool, but the are many alternatives. 5101 has a unique art deco design. You can’t find almost any art deco watches in the market regardless the price. That alone makes this watch super special.
Also I would like to add that the shape of 5101 is mesmerising. Truly beautiful.
Winner: 5101.

3. Dial and hands.
Hands.
LF hands are more exquisite. Very sleek and elegant. PP does a good job, but not smth special.

Dial.
LF has enamel dial and in my book that’s the best option that can be utilised for a dial.
PP has a less simple dial. I don’t adore the word « tourbillon » and a number on a dial. But it doesn’t spoil it.

Indices.
I love applied indices - so it’s a win for PP.
Winner: both are fine, maybe LF is bit better due to the enamel dial and sleek hands.

4.Movement
Technically they are both magnificent. LF has an interesting solution of double barrels. But 5101 was designed and adjusted to show exceptional chronometer results.
As far as power reserve is concerned - not sure that 10 days is better than 3 days. In 5101 the movement is under bigger stress due to the long powerful springs. So it may be less robust.
Winner: 5101

5.Finishing
5101 looks OK. The only thing that may have been improved - the plate that covers the movement seems to be too big.
I can’t understand why people praise the finishing of 5101 to be exceptional. PP has done a fantastic job but it doesn’t stand up to independents’ quality.

LF lacks internal angles. Its movement has a very nice architecture so it could have been a movement with a marvellous finishing. But in reality it is just appropriate.
Winner: 5101


Conclusion. 5101 is better.

PS if you want 5101 to fit your wrist perfectly - buy a soft leather strap that bends across your wrist easily. You will elevate the looks and the comfort of 5101.

I love your passion and, like you, I really like the 5101 a lot.
The only thing is that the 51.7 mm lug-to-lug is probably too long for my wrist.
I really hope I'll be able to try one on someday.

Do you happen to know the current market for 5101?

including 10 platinum, but only 5 with box and papers (none in the EU).

By the way, what option do you like the best? For me it is the white gold version as it is “quiet”. Then the rose gold on a gray strap - looks very festive. I haven’t seen in person the platinum and the yellow gold ones. Judging by the photos the yellow gold 5101 might be the most universal option thanks to the white dial that can be matched with any strap.
As for platinum - I suppose it is heavy and it is not a good thing for this watch as it might travel on the wrist.

Not only do I think such an "end-game" watch deserves the most prestigious of metals, but more importantly, the platinum version is the only one produced before 2009, with a movement bearing the Geneva Seal and not the Patek Philippe seal. And this would be an essential element of my choice, as it was for my 5098P. An early 2009 rose gold variant with Geneva Seal might be possible to find, but I would still choose platinum.
