Sounds reasonable to me. I think it is a fair expectation for a date change to occur somewhat near midnight.
As we do not know what model you got, it rather gets assumption based…
It is kind of “I bought a new car and it feels not as fast as it should be. What do you think?” ☺️
What I want to say is, it totally depends on the movement. Modern movements have usually an instant shift, which means, it’s supposed to be in the +/- 10 minutes space. But there are other movements around, that shift continuously and that could take several hours. Examples could be movements with perpetual calendar function…

The watch at issue is the Christoper Ward C63 True GMT.
I believe that it may be ETA2892 or 2894 based, with a module. Since the 2892/2894 change the date close to midnight, perhaps the particular construction here is the issue.

My question is how do you already have this one?
I pre-ordered one and their website said it won’t be delivered until early August. As far as the movement is concerned from what I have read is it is based on their first (and only) in house movement, and the GMT is integrated, not a module. Supposedly it took them a couple of years to work this out delaying a release that was supposed to come sooner. I think because it’s not a module they were able to keep it relatively thinner.
I placed my order (Pre-Order) right when the True GMT was first announced and may have lucked out on early delivery.
It's not ETA based. Every review I read stated it was an in house movement with 120 hours power reserve.

As for whether it is in-house, I am asking CW for clarification on that point, since one of their reps wrote to me in reply to my date-relate query saying, "I have reached out to the manufacturer/designer of the movement in Switzerland to get an exact answer for you."
Here is some clarification from CW on the In-house designation :
"[T]he movement CW002 is an in house movement, but we have a Christopher Ward team in Switzerland build and install the movements into the watch head, and then despatch to us thereafter. So these are the guys that have the best knowledge on the in-house movement."
