hi,
i'm looking to buy a large chunky chrono with date. i saw the article on the Oris TT3 PVD black and RG which i thought was great, but i want something a bit more unusual or rarer if you get my drift.
i'm considering a panerai Daylight chrono, black dial. no pic as you all know what it looks like, but i've recently come across BRM which are nice small production hand made pieces.
this is one choice. val 7753 movement. 49mm x 51mm, superb looking and very mechanical motor vehicle orientated which i love, but its pricey

or there is this which is 1/3rd of price, not pvd but still has the look i'm after. 44mm diameter.

there is also a round pvd and rg version of the above watch which is similar price to the big one.

so theres my dilemma, do i buy the Oris which fits the bill, is cheap, but mass produced, do i buy the Pam chrono which is big chunky, but perhaps not as unique as i'm looking for or do i risk a fair amount of cash on a BRM which i know very little about, but love the design of. if anyone knows about BRM please help or opinions of each model would be good.
i know that the final choice is down to me and i like the 'unusual', but i'll take on board what people say.
cheers

i've just been haggling big time with a BRM dealer and can get a white/grey dialled and red handed version of the V12-44(middle pic) for a huge discount. i know we dont discuss prices but its less that the Oris is without discount. cost has a great bearing on my purchases as i'm a watch pauper(although you wouldnt know it looking at my collection). put it like this, to buy the 2 pvd BRM's or the Pam i would need to sell 2 very nice watches at good prices first, but to buy the one pictured below i dont need to sell anything. it has all the elements i'm looking for but without the PVD, but i can always get a PVD watch at a later date.
heres a pic.

i think mr Anamico would agree that a red sanded stingray strap would suit this down to the ground.
i havent bought it yet so opinions still wanted over weekend
cheers

I wouldn't settle on getting the below watch just cause you can get it now without selling any part of your collection.
Get what you want now so you don't waste your time and money on something which will only satiate you for the time being.
My 2 cents,
Anthony
it could be a very long time or never before i can afford the 'biggie' which may not suit me anyway bearing in mind its wider than the biggest pam not including crown etc. i'm currently wearing a 45mm Radiomir 'style' watch which is plenty big enough. none of the AD's have the 'biggie' in stock so there is no way i can try it on so its possibly better to avoid it. no ones going to get one in for me to try on without a deposit or confirmed order.
PVD is not highest on my wish list, but the big chunky chrono is.
i wont make a firm decision yet and look around, but the style of it smacks me right in the face if you know what i mean.
thanks again

Not sure I like the "Erector Set" looks, but that's just my own view.
Maybe one of the Bell & Ross pieces? Say, the BR03-94 (42mm square)? Or even bigger, the BR01-94 (46mm square)? Both are chronographs w/ date and come in stainless steel as well as PVD. I'm sure both appear suitably huge on the average wrist...and probably even so on bigger wrists. The B&Rs seem popular, so they probably don't fall into the unusual and rare categories, but they do look nice...
or just get a Lange Platinum Doublesplit and have it PVD'd...the ultimate stealth chrono...LOL...
Good luck,
John
the white dialled red handed highly discounted model and save up for the 'biggie' and in answer to john bradley. the 'mecchano' image is actually what i like about the watches. they base their whole ethos on motor sport and design their watches in that way. all very hand made in small numbers which makes them a bit special or unusual to me. bullet proof movement highly modified by BRM.
i think the Oris is a no go. too 'fashion', so wait for the wrist shots
thanks for your opinions, all taken on board.
