In the event of not considering venue,event,day or nite,watch or no watch purpose,and etc,i think i would go with the aboe piece.

I agree.  Absent some particular reason to wear a different watch for a particular purpose, the UN GMT Perpetual appears to be the perfect watch.

and since it's so light, perhaps I could sneak in Journe Grand Sonnerie on the other wrist. Of course, these are the DREAM pieces.

Based on pieces currently owned and within parameters you have set aka ONE piece only to bring/use?.... Lange Datograph.

If I only had to take one watch, it would have to be to remember what things were like on earth.
Because on another planet we probably wouldn't even care about 24 hour days, now would we?
So I guess a moonphase would be good for reminiscing about "the old days" and "the old months" but not strictly necessary.

 I would take the MIH because I would be sure to break my glasses exploring about the new planet, and this would be the only watch I could read.

Plus the rubber strap would be resistant to mold and moisture and so on, assuming we get a jungle planet like Venus (or Malaysia).
And it would be less chance of irritating any native races if they happen to be of the Crocodilians persuasion...

If the planet is desert we wouldn't want to have the heat ruining the strap, or sand clogging up a nice X-71, for example.

So the MIH it is.

I see you already acknowledged my point.  Good luck on Venus:  the condition of your watch strap will be the least of your concerns.

Possibilities:
1. Mercury: No moonphase, because mercury has no moon; should be a special alloy because temperatures fluctuate between _180 and + 420 °C, some sort of titanium will do. Mercury rotates in 58 days so there will be a lot of numbers on your dial; i suggest 58 mercurian hours(days).

2. Venus: No moonphase too, A feminin watch with diamonds and a pink bracelet. Here there will be a problem because venus rotates around the sun every 225 days, but one day takes 243 earth-days. Think we'd better ask mr. Dufour how to solve this one.

3. Earth -no possibility.

4. Mars: Watch must be sand resistant and i guess a little bit water resistant 3atm will do since we are not sure there really is water on mars. A day takes 24 hours and 36 minutes so i guess we take a common watch and slow it a bit down. Ofcourse it becomes more difficult if you want a moonphase since mars has two moons ... and they're actually rocks with a strange shape; we'd better skip moonphases.

5 to 9 (saturn, jupiter .... pluto): No moonphase at all, these planets have way too many moons. Can you imagine a dial with 63 moonphases for jupiter, that would be a very big challenge for our best watchmakers

I would go for option 4: Mars is not that far away and has a lot of advantages: Maybe you can see the earth explode; maybe there's water, maybe there really is life on mars .... and i would definitively take the Breguet La Tradition in pink gold with the brown leather bracelet with me.

I suppose you could take a time only watch, either mechanical or solar quartz.

Because if I need money, and even if I am on Mars, they will be more likly to know ROLEX than Breguet.

Because if I want to sell the watch they will feel more confident in identifing with Yellow Gold before White Gold or stainless

Because at the end of the day if our time does not relate to their time... I can push the button and it will record  how long that I have been away.

Because if I meet a nice Martian girl and want to comb my hair...I can use the back of the case as a mirror.

Because I have tested these watches in the toughest of conditions for 15 years and you cant kill them.

out of the question... I think it is just a joke that Ares said to stress the point that we must name the one and ONLY watch for any of us... It could be like this: If some bad people took all your watches except one, what would you like the remaining watch to be???
Now planets, stars, void, cosmic radiation etc must be taken out of the equation, PLEASE!!!!
Just say THE ONLY WATCH FOR YOU!!!!!

I think i would like to keep the most expensive watch .....
I would stick with the breuet la tradition as i mentioned before, it is a clean 'simple' watch with that little special thing.

...it is a 'Sophie's Choice' decision about the watches in the current collection then, as with Art I suppose,  the defining factor would be sentiment rather than value, rarity, function or all round suitability. The problem then, however, is that several watches still qualify in that category :  father's watch, gifts from wife etc etc.

In the final analysis, for me it would be the watch that my father gave me on my thirteenth birthday a lifetime ago: an old Tissot Seastar chrono.

day night cycles become useless measures of time. So your watch would be useless measures of absolete time. But it may stil be useful to remind you that you need to get to bed and get some sleep!

But seriously, right now, I would either carry my Grand Seiko or Omega Speedmaster - as they probably can last the longest with out having to be serviced.
