WPP 2008 Singapore - Security, Bar ID and Souvenir Badge

Keppel Bay Marina Club House

What else did you expect? That's why they call it a marina

Prive
A new complex of Restaurant, GastroBar and Cafe at the marina.
They had their official Grand Opening just a day before our WPP 2008 event.... although the rich and famous have been enjoying prime steaks and fine dining for a few months. In the evenings, the gastro bar is HOT HOT HOT with PYTs (pretty young things) and financial wizards cooling off from a hard day's wheeling and dealing.

Our dedicated restaurant manager (Miss CT) making sure everything was ready for discerning PuristS

SPONSORS
As is our PuristS custom, everyone turned up expecting to share the cost of the event but there was a pleasant surprise in store for the Inaugural WPP attendees in Singapore!
First, a note of thanks to our main sponsor - TimeWerke magazine - they stepped up with free-flow champagne all evening that set off the elegant tone of a Watching Perpetually PuristS evening.
Mr Michael Lu of Prive threw in a selection of pub grub tasters and we were all set.....
An Anonymous Purist contributed the rest.
WATCHES
We had an official photographer sent by TimeWerke magazine to cover the event but I brought along my camera as back-up.
I must apologise upfront that all photographing activity stopped on my part, once the champagne kicked in !

Clean lines of the teutonic Glashuette Original; see the little red dot for Leap Year?

This ladies' Gerald Genta automatic perpetual calendar did quite well, considering the torque requirements....see the Leap Year blue indicator?
22:05: date changed to 30.
23:05: date changed to 31.
23:40: month changed to Mar.
23:52: date changed to 01.
23:58: day chaged to Sat.

31st of February?

Rare, discontinued Glashutte Original perpetual calendar Karre mit moonphase.
By the way, it was a half-waning moon that night.

This Breguet tourbillon retrograde date perpetual calendar was absolutely beautiful and a good thing too because the owner spent a l-o-o-n-n-g time looking for the changes
Here showing 29 Feb

Here showing 1 Mar.

Girard Perregaux Ferrari GTO Perpetual Calendar Chronograph
Date: .....30..... hidden under chronograph seconds hand

Date 01 Mar

Mysteriously, IWC da Vinci Kurt Klaus did not change date even after the hands showed midnight
I wonder why???
PEOPLE

Our papparazo doing his th-ang as the black limos arrived.
He was smoking a fag only seconds before this shot!

Right: Mr & Mrs IWC had big torque engines.........should have changed at midnight without problems.......
Left: The Poljot moonphase chronograph was showing half-moon correctly and the Citizen Minute Repeater Perpetual Calendar had the most instantaneous change that night

Ahhh....Patek Philippe perpetual calendars....by the time you can afford one.....you can't read the dial

The staff had set up two "Watching" areas with standard lamps.

CONCLUSION
We would be interested to hear what people thought of the Watching Perpetually PuristS event. Please leave your comments.
For the inaugural event, we purposely kept it non-brand specific even though some brands with particular expertise in perpetual calendars wanted to join the party.
I'm predictinig that the next-big-thing will be perpetual calendars and astronomical watches so maybe when we do the WPP 2009 event on 28 Feb 2009, many more brands CAN join the party, because they would have great perpetuals in their range......?
Shall we do the WPP Dance in 2009?
Regards,
MTF

Thanks for being such a great host for the night. We had definitely enjoy ourselves. Oops! about the watch, he did it on purpose just to create some excitement for the night.
Nice meeting all at the event!
Cheers!
Our target was 20 PuristS.
We had 29 registered people but 2 dropped out on the night.....then 2 replacements...so spookily, we had 29 attendees on the 29th Feb !
Maybe the largest turn-out of the WPP2008 global locations...
MTF

Nice location and great company together with some wonderful timepieces on a significant day !
Cant wait for the next GTG . A GTG based on another theme perhaps ? Chronos / GMTs / Worldtime / Power Reserve / Divers / Alarms / Military / Chronometers ?

If you were there but wished you were here, where would you have been watching virtually?
We had cool sea breezes on a tropical palm swaying sort of night. Someone as to do it.....
MTF
And I hope you have some extra WPP'08 pins

Thomas Mao also made threats!
It's very simple:

This is such an interesting night, only once in every 4 years!
cheers
Thanks for organizing the event, MTF. Food was good, wine was great, watch watching was awesome, but the friends made was the absolute best part!
LP
for the great event. It was great to catch up with friends, and meet other watch enthusiasts and collectors. It makes me want to go acquire a perpetual calendar watch, knowing now how my MIH watch (does not) perform on that night.
Cheers,
CS
