Its got to be friday somewhere so can i start with my new 'fun' piece
My Fortis IQ Rolf Sachs 'ART' edition arrived on wednesday and i've been wearing it ever since. its a very nice size at 40mm and comes on a 'bund' military style strap which is a bit unusual for an 'art' watch, but comfy to wear nonetheless. case is a nice matt pvd finish. nothing special, but looks like it will weather a storm ok. the most important bit on this watch is of course the dial which is great. the writing is very faintly bluish but i'm partially colourblind so dont take it as gospel. the hands are nicely luminous, but the writing is quite weak although thats not important. the hands are the most important bits to see i think. my wife likes it and i think it will see some time on her wrist when she goes to her University studies. i agree with Cen that the date is a bit odd and unnessesary. the watch would be fine without it. it doesnt 'spoil' the dial, but it does have some very slight detremental effect on the blackboard effect.
anyway, it runs nicely on a 2824 movement, keeps very good time and is a bit of fun in and ever depressing world. my PPro ABR is also in the post and getting new car hopefully tomorrow so lots to keep the smile going at the moment

Looks like they messed up on the 90 degrees
cause there really isn't any significance to the number 3.

Putting 90 degrees there makes sense when 0 degrees is at 0, but that doesn't translate to # 3. All the other numerals, except 10 which is a ?, mathematically computate to their respective numeral.

Hey Graham nice !! I just got this one for my brithday ! today
I just got this watch in time for my birthday... It is a uncommon Jumbo First Generation Kontiki Date ! from 1960. To be honest I have been looking for any first year Kontiki for a gift for my Dad ( but that is another story). I found him a watch about 19 months ago. That one was a std size non date Kontiki from about 1958. I saw this one for sale and between the jumbo case size approx 38 mm and the early quickset date feature and ( date wheel was black with gilt print type!) what sealed it was that it has its original Gay Freres Kontiki signed bracelet I had to get it .... well the box came just in time for my birthday !!

Nice Kontiki Bill, i had...
contiki from 70's which was similar. it was the one with the numerals inset into
the lume triangles. the dial was better than yours looks but yours is an earlier
model i think. i used to have a link to a kontiki history page, but lost it and
cant find it again which is a pain as it was very informative. i also didnt keep
pics of the watch. there are several missing and that just happens to be one of
them. story of my life i think.

agree Both the UG and the Kontiki are classic
My focus is really on vintage timepieces. i totally agree with on the Polrouter and the Kontikis.

. . . our Collectors Market a few years ago for a reasonable asking price, but I was committed to another G O purchase at the time. This would be one of my very favorite Reversos, along with the skeleton movement pink and white gold versions of the 90's and the recent platinum tourbillons. The funny thing is that I normally find skeleton watches unappealing, and practically the only exceptions happen to be Reversos . . . best regards, Art

Yep, this is a dressy watch which perfectly fits with a suit, but it also works with Jeans, and a nice White Shirt!
