Hi All,
I am sometimes asked by marketing people what products I associate with particular companies and vice versa. I thought it might be fun to do the same thing with the watch companies – name the very first watch or watch line that comes to mind for the following companies:
Audemars Piguet
Blancpain
Breguet
Chopard
Gerald Genta
Girard-Perregaux
Glashutte Original
Jaeger-LeCoultre
Jaquet Droz
F.P.Journe
A. Lange & Sohne
Officine Panerai
Omega
Richard Mille
Patek Philippe
Rolex
Daniel Roth
Ulysse Nardin
Vacheron Constantin
Harry Winston
AHCI and other Independent Haute Horology
To start with I have just taken this list from the companies represented by the Purists Forums, but feel free to add some additional ones, including specific independent brands, if you wish (although I purposefully put the AHCI/Independents in the list, just to see which single watch comes to mind).
Remember, one choice only for each brand. You can go with an iconic watch or just a favourite from that brand; it’s your choice.
I have already made my own personal list, but I will post it later so I don’t ‘lead’ anyone.
I look forward to your responses…
Andrew

Hi All,
Thanks for your lists so far.
It is not surprising that nearly all of us (and I will reveal my list later) chose the Royal Oak / Offshore. [Art, where have you been living?] Do you think it is a two-edged sword for a company like AP to have such an iconic watch? The RO design has probably been around long enough to transcend trends, but what happens if the public’s love affair with this design wains?
In contrast, some of us seem to have difficulty coming up with a definitive example of a Panerai. Does this mean that they are all ‘much of a muchness’ and it doesn’t really matter which one you have? [With apologies to the Paneristi]
What about Jaquet Droz? Do they need something more iconic in their line-up or is it a good thing not to be associated with one watch/design?
So, is it better to have a broad range of watches that appeal to different segments equally or have an iconic watch that you can leverage your entire brand on, but be at risk if the fickle finger of fashion points elsewhere?
Andrew
Hi Art,
You answered the right way. My “Art, where have you been living?” question was very much tongue-in-cheek. I wanted people to just answer the first thing that came into their heads when that brand was mentioned. It could have been an iconic watch, a favourite watch or just one they saw advertised in a magazine they picked up yesterday…
I will tabulate the responses shortly.
Thanks again.
Andrew

Hi Emilio
You are not ‘late’. I was just interjecting with an observation on the responses so far. Also interesting that VC’s mask series has created such an impact in people’s minds.
Thanks for the contribution.
