The Internet is worldwide and PuristSPro / ThePuristS are both very international.

Our members come from more than 100 countries on most continents ( we still don't know if the scientists on Antartica are checking in).

The moderator team is spread across the world in USA, Singapore, France, Hong Kong, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, and Malaysia  --  did I miss anybody? 

In the past, we had moderators in Japan and Chile but people keep moving around the world. We even had Brazilian in NYC, Italian in Paris, Chinese-British in Tokyo, WASP in Hong Kong and we are still working on the first black woman moderator in Beijing

I am genetically (mostly) Chinese, born in Malysia, UK-citizen, married a Welsh giri, speak a little Greek and Japanese, working in Singapore and Tokyo for Swedish-American-British-Japanese companies, and whose two best food-buddies are Italian (Rome) and French (Paris). Plus my brother-in-law is so French that he even hates himself!

...and first let me say that your command of English is excellent.  I hear you, and I am humbled everyday by the ability of our many international PuristS who converse so fluidly in a written language that is not their own.  That feat in itself is to be applauded.  I could not participate on this site (or any other) in any language other than my native English.  I understand that posting in a second language may be more challenging for you, but I do hope you will grace us with more of your time and thoughts whenever possible.    I know I would love to read more from you!  Thanks for your note and kind words!

with you , but other than your English, you are almost perfect to lead a moderator life: wide and diverse collection, nice human being, good photography, etc.

Yeah, considering my grammar (I hate past, present, future tense, and we don't have that in Indonesian and Chinese. We just simply said: I just EAT 2 hours ago. And people understand that perfectly), I am quite happy that a lot of people understand the message I'm trying to convey. And if I'm too scared to write due to my English, how would this website evolve without a freak like me?

I feel like it does take some time to come up with a response that sounds intelligent.  There are a lot of members here who are extremely eloquent and articulate and basically, I don't want to sound stupid or silly in front of them.  However, I try to block out this mode of thinking and just post whatever is on my mind.  I realized a long time ago that this community is so respectful and welcoming and would rather hear something said than nothing said at all. So   relax, type whatever comes to you and don't worry about the English.  We'll know what you are talking about. 

We always have a good time together here on PPro, don't we?    I always enjoy reading your posts, and appreciate your note on this one!

Thanks for the nice note (and PM).  I'll be seeing you this weekend, and I fear you'll be disappointed to find that I am neither sophisticated or charming, but rather that I'm just a plain girl from Virginia who's more Darth Vader than Holly Golightly!  Regardless, I look forward to putting faces to names!  As for the Dr. Strangelove reference in the title of the post, I honestly can't say why I chose it.  Somehow it seemed appropriate.

Before spending a little time here, my initial perception of this group was a small clique of Robb Report overachievers. Seriously.

I think the notion of "purist" along with a forum discussing expensive watches and "purist" lifestyle to many could be notion of elitist ("we're special!"- in not an inclusive way). It took me a little time here getting to know the players to see that it wasn't.

I also think the language of the site framework may be a little too fussy for most. Trying too hard to push a concept that may or may not resonate with more than a limited audience.\ I do know of a couple people who post elsewhere who are intimidated by this place.

That being said, this has become one of my favorite forums. Having been able to meet a few of the participants at local GTGs and have a few email chats has been wonderful. It's all about people and personal connection anyway.

This is a diverse group and it's truly fun to see it come together. If I can post here, anyone can.

Your posts are great!  I always enjoy them.  I felt a bit intimidated by the site initially, and I too wondered if I really belonged in a group of people who were regularly discussing watches with MSRPs of twice my yearly salary.  However, I soon came to realize that (as far as I can tell) nobody is judging me by the size of my bank account or by what I'm wearing on my wrist.  I've always felt that PPro is a very egalitarian community in that regard.  Tell your friends who found the site intimidating to come on back and check us out!  Passion for watches and people are the only requirements to participate IMO!

The best thing about your post is that it reveals you as a true ambassador for this forum.
Even the most hardened forum lurker should be joining up after reading that.

BTW- With the ambassadorship should come a free watch.

I didn't get your Robb Report reference at first, but I think I understand it now.

The quality and thoroughness of the reviews done on this website transcends the quality that's coming from Robb Report which still has to resort to using small inserts of basic French to keep the article interesting.

I have to say, out of all the other watch blogs out there on the internet, I find this to have the most engaging, respectful, educated, and most downright interesting participants. I think that his use of "Robb Report Overachievers" is meant to imply the exotic and grail type of pieces that our members found on the PuristSPro and ThePurist websites have.

thanks for this post, Daos. It took me a while to start posting, and I must admit, I still don't do it often enough. I came across this site while searching for information relating to a watch I was eyeing for a long time, the IWC Mark XVI. One thing that caused reservations was that the pieces shown at this site were way off in a different league to which my "affordability" level was at. It took a while and some encouragement from some of you, for me to realise that folks who are at this forum are interested in watches and price range or leagues had nothing to do with it, and that even though I didn't know a whole lot about watches, I received good feedback and answers that I was looking for.

I've come some ways since acquiring that first watch, and have really started to enjoy my time here and logging in is now a daily part of life.

I'm glad you are logging on more, as I enjoy your posts, and look forward to reading them.  I definitely needed some encouragement to continue on after my first few tentative posts.  I'm grateful to everyone here for bearing with me then (and doing so still), and for the positive responses I received from moderators and members alike.  I'm glad you are receiving great feedback too!  I hope we both can keep this cycle of goodwill going for any lurkers who might wish to come out of the woodwork at this time!

Very well written Daos!  I absolutely agree that posting was intimidating at first, but as many others have pointed out, PuristSPro is a wonderful, respectful and welcoming community.  It's been a pleasure meeting some of the moderators and fellow PuristS around the world. 

I hope to meet up with you someday at a local SoCal GTG!

I'm grateful for the strong local community of PuristS here in the LA area.  We denizens of SoCal are lucky in that regard.  I do agree that everyone on the forum has always been respectful and friendly.  These are some of the key qualities that keep me coming back!

Luckily you are far better with words than I am so my eventual mumbling has taken gorgeous shape in you post

It is always fascinating for me to see how different sex, continent, age and occupation has nothing to do
when it comes to same passion .. then all borders and differences just disappear and we all stand united in thoughts, emotions and understanding
