Horological Meandering

Great pics and excellent report. I'm less convinced by the watch. I like the layout of the caliber, the technical contents but at the end, I don't like the overall design of the watch. I would have put an other pair of hands and the contrast between them and the plate of the caliber doesn't work IMHO.

Anyway, it has been the most interesting Tag Heuer for ages and one of the most long-awaited watches of the industry.

A really great job made, as always.

As I said you in a previous post, I´ve always connect in my mind this V4 with some (few) watches... them are really Concept Watches, like our beloved and admired UN Freak.

A nice work made of Hight Tech, a nice game with new materials, conception of old horology, a nice break with the tradition, but with all the respect for this Horological tradition.

This jobs are usefull to made advances.

In the case of the V4, a watch that I met 4 years ago, it belongs to a brand that I´ve loved for some years... certanlly, my first great watch was a Tag Carrera re-edition and too, I´ve loved always the Monaco family.

That was one of these few watches I regret having sold!

Nothing extraordinary, horologically speaking, but it had a lot of charm!

As for the V4, it is indded another league, and I'm happy to see it exists, finally.

Interesting concept, I was happy to read about the belts having steel wire inside them. I was always troubled by the "Stretch" factor of old belts. Is it safe to assume Tag sorted out this potential hazard inherent in rubber belts?

An interesting looking piece, still pricey though for what it is. I don't think it can be put in the same league as the Freak though, as has been mentioned a couple of times in this thread. As the old saying goes, the market will determine if it priced fairly and correspond accordingly.

For me, I don't think the "A Tag Heuer for that price!!! You must be crazy" is fair, as a lot of time has obviously gone into development, having said that $100k for this piece is a bit rich I think. But time will tell....

The comparison with the Freak is only valid as they both are very original watches, to me.

This is indeed the only one common point between these 2.

And I agree with you on your reserves about comparing them too far.

I guess TAG sorted out all the problems they met during the conception phase, and I really hope for them it is the case.

Time will tell as for the price, too, but I'm happy to see such a watch in this world.

Always good to check out new innovations in the watch industry.Personally,I feel TH has missed the boat with this Concept, coming at a time where prudence and practicality are on peoples' mind,When I first read about it,maybe a couple of years ago, at the height of the economic boom, it made good sense. However, for my 2 cents, it's a case of too little, too late and I would prefer to stick with the tried and tested, especially in this price range.

At this price TAG ( sorry for the bad pun ), some will go on PP, JLC or VC, while others will take the risk.

The thing is also to know what T.H will do with this technology: Developping it on new watches, which seems logical if we consider all the work done on it, or just keeping it for the V4.

In this last case, the V4 may be a cult watch...

This is the story of the trains we miss or not...

I am genuinely impressed with the beautiful finishing of this Tag Heuer. This Tag is easily the best-finished Tag-Heuer watch I've ever seen. I was even more impressed with the transmission belts and the further testament to motorsports heritage.

The watch is a very tempting watch indeed! But that price is a big lump to swallow!

Hopefully they will make a future line of Monaco watches in this rectangular shape and size more often.

But even if I could afford it, I could NEVER convince myself to pay 70K fot a TAG Heuer, no matter how nice the watch is.

I agree that the price is important, even MAYBE excessive, BUT if I had to pay such a price for an exceptional watch, I would do it, independantly of the name written on the dial or on the case.

Will you buy a watch wit a prestigious name but which won't be your taste instead of buying a watch which is your taste, but not coming with a prestigious name?

No, If its a Patek, VC , AP ,... I don't like I will not buy it .

I'm not that kind of snob which will only wear expensive watches, I still can love a cheap watch but when we're talking about 70K ... Yes, in this case I would only buy those well known, more expensive brands

If Kia or Hyundai would make a nice car, and a good car but they would ask the same price as an Aston Martin, would you consider the Hyundai ?

A superb car, at a better level of Performances, Finsh, and Design than an Aston Martin, I don't see why I'd go on an Aston Martin...

And I would go further: If The Duometre was launched by PP, what would be the price tag, and would have been even better considered than it is, now?

If I say that, it is because I received some PMs telling me " Wow, what a great watch, but not for me..Not enough expensive for me "...

You see the vicious game?

Expensive=Excellence.

Affordable=Cheap.

A name sometimes makes more than the product, which I think sad, because beauty and horological interest don't have nothing to do with the name, IMO.
