Sit close to a beautifuul girl, and one hour will pass like one second.
Put your finger into the fire, and one second will last an eternity....

is used to control the regularity of the work of the watch, while the power reserve measures the autonomy of the watch.
Which is useful when you have a long power reserve watch, as during 15 days of autonomy, a watch can work fast or slowly.
Do you get it?

You are actually asking two questions - one about repeaters (on demand) and one about Sonneries en Passant (both automatically striking and on demand)
Those I know who wear their repeaters and sonneries en passant use them regularly -
as a break from the doldrums of daily routine (the melodic ting tang provides a refreshing respite) (repeaters)
as a subtle "reminder" that the meeting is going on for too long (SeP)
as a subtle "reminder" that one has been working on the internet, where all sense of time is lost in the wee hours of the morning, too long and it's time to log off and go to sleep (SeP)
to figure out, tactfully, who's sleeping next to you, in the dark... (SeP or repeater)
;-)
but I was curious about that aspect. How does one live with a repeater (and yes the Sonneries which are a different being as you point out, also give the owner the option to be turned off) throughout the week as one wears it?
