Here's a draw which will illustrate what is a super compressor case ( Credit " Invenit and Fecit " )



Yes, it has an intenral rotating bezel, and it is seriously water resistant ( 200 meters ).

In fact a super compressor case has a screw in case back with a Compressor Spring to insure this water resistance.

No screw in crowns.

There is no confusion to be made between Syuper Compressor Case and Master Compressor, this latest being a JLC Line with original screw in crowns.

By your definition, my LLD is NOT a Super Compressor because it has screw in crowns

On other hand, I had the impression that the internal rotating bezel is not a hard requirement and the Super Compressor was more, as it's on the patent, a pure watch case technology.

The good news is that an old Enicar that I had, and it was "kidnapped" by my daughter, has a SC case.
Let me see if I can "bribe" her with some other thing.

....if your case is not made by EPSA, then it cannot be a Super Compressor.

Modern JLCs/Longines/IWC/Ocean7/what have you, by definition, aren't Super Compressors.

They take all the cues, such as hash-marks on the crowns, diver helmet logos, etc....but I have never seen inside one to see whether the construction is the same. Given the peculiarities of the Super Compressor cases, particularly the installation/location of the crystal, I doubt it.

So these are best thought of as styled after the Super Compressor cases, not replications of the case design

They are ... " Tribute To ... ".

Enicar made some very nice specimens of Super Compressor Cases.

....don't get me wrong. I think the likes of the Longines Legend Diver and the JLC Polaris re-edition are brilliant.

The modern 'tributes' give you all of the upsides, especially water resistance, but still sadly miss out on the character and originality of the EPSA cases. But that's modern v. vintage, not just confined to these examples.

Compressors are probably the most fragile of vintage dive watches. The gear on the upper crown and the mesh to the inner bezel is always a worry. Not to mention the unavailability of replacements (unless anyone knows different???) for the gear, the crowns and the special plexiglass. Futher, one of my Enicars has a thin, pressed aluminium World Time bezel. vulnerable as hell to knocks and the thought of salt water...no way.

One day. I'll find a good Sherpa OPS...then I'll be content with Compressors...for at least a week...

Yes, as Vintage watches, you have to show some care about them, because spare parts are not evident to find....

I'm still hunting a new plexy for one of my Vintage Super Compressor...

...one spare for my Sherpa-Guide. Well, I think it's a spare...The shape, diameter etc are correct but the flange depth doesn't seem 100% and I don't want to dismantle my watch to check.

I didn't know you obtained a Nautical. I think I told you that the one I looked at was almost trashed...

Favre...so we can expect to see Barometers and Depth Gauges soon? Looking forward to it.

I mean, a Vulcain, but I have to find a plexy and a set of correct hands.

As for Favre Leuba, I'm really in love with their watches.

Certainly one day I'll get a Depthmeter from them, or an Atlimeter / Barometer.

i guess these two watches can be classified as super compressor watch, anyway let me introduce them to you: the first one is Fortis Marinemaster Diver (first 3 pics), another one is also very well known - Longines Legend Diver (last pic).

It is a colorful version of the JLC MM Deep Sea, at least the case looks a bit like this JLC.

As for the LLD, it is a Tribute, so the case is not, literally speaking, a Super Compressor, but an Homage to its Super Compressor Mother!
