Hey, it's a quiet weekend: how about we have a look at some vintage (or vintage style) pieces? It would be good to see some of the classic designs which have shaped what we wear today - some of the old Ingeneurs, perhaps; original Reversos, Tudors, Omega bumpers, etc.
To kick things off, if it won't be thought cheating here's a watch in a vintage style (although it may not be as old as first thought) -
Anyone else in?
Cheers,
pplater.
To make it short and nice ( well, I hope ), here is my latest catch, something interesting an beautiful, a Vintage Longines 30 CH Chrono from 1964 / 65:
An influence for our modern days?
My answer would be a Reference... For all the fine modern chronographs.
As we speak about Longines, while surfing on the net, I fell on a re edition, which looks more like a tribute than to a re editioin, as I think, but I'm not sure, that the original didn't have a date.
Have a look at this:
The name of this watch is engraved on the case back:
And what I understood to be the original:
French polar expeditions, Paul Emile Victor:
A tribute to the original watch, which was used in 1947
Self-winding mechanical movement, calibre L619 (ETA 2892/A2), offering a power reserve of 42 hours.
Case: Circular, steel, Ø 38.50 mm
What do you think?
Best,
Nicolas

I was waiting for a re edition of the WWW.
It landed a few months ago, and what do I see?
A date at 6, " eating " the small second subdial.
Eating, not to say ...Ruining.
Now this Tribute to Expedition, and bingo, here again, a date.
While Longines was able to release a sublime re edition of the Diver...
The problem is that a lot of people are calling for a Date, and maybe, that Longines is not confident enough in their power of attraction, to not fall in this kind of criticable details.
Well, that is only my point of view.
As for the Chrono, I'm still waiting for a re edition of the 30 CH or 13 ZN, with a superb caliber.
Will we have to wait an Eternity for that?
Is this the impact of the Group where Longines belongs to?
Food for though.
Best,
Nicolas
