Andrew, how long did you lurk before registering to the forum and that making first post?

I met Dr. No socially and was alerted to this site. Looked like a place to explore, so easy to register and get my feet wet.
I posted immediately.

I probably lurked for 8 or 12 months before I finally made my first post. I touched on that in my recent Fifth Anniversary thread. I remember thinking what an amazingly knowledgeable bunch with collections that I could only dream of having. Why would anyone be interested in my simple watch? But I made that first step and built up slowly from there.

It's about the passion.

You describe my sentiments exactly: such a knowledgeable bunch with such amazing collections. Being new to horology and new to this forum I can mostly only lurk and learn, but will try occasionally to ask an intelligent question and hopefully some of you will post answers that are informative and useful, not just to me, but also to other members. I have already learned a lot from lurking here.

You know that old saying about the only stupid questions are those not asked, well I think you will be pleasantly surprised if you ask away here. In my experience, Purists will discuss anything about watches ad infinitum! Just wind us up with a question and watch us go!

I noted your Luminor GMT contribution to the 'car thread'. Looks great. You should post some more pictures and your experience with it on the Panerai Forum.

... i have only joined this community since not very long ago, i have not heard of these stores before.

very interesting, maybe because of aged, i like to hear more historical stuff, like myself first like the modern watches, but now recently also getting to like vintages. it is interesting journey of collecting vintage watches while knowing interesting stories of each watch.

for myself as a member with few years of exposure to watches, i would like to learn more technical stuffs of the watches and like to hear more old history of each watch.

Andrew, you have really made this place like "no other place like HoMe" since you have become the moderator.

Hi Blomman,

Thanks for the encouraging words.

You raise an important point about the speed of forums and how best to keep up with new posts. Purists was always renowned for letting threads unwind in interesting and detailed ways, but this can be compromised if things move too fast. I am conscious of this. I can pin interesting topics for a couple of days to allow them to fully mature, and all of you can use the "New Start Page" or "Most Recent Threads" view to keep up with additions to old threads.

I will try and keep things varied and interesting, but in the end this is 'your' forum, and the more Purists contribute the more interesting it is for all.
