Hi All
The HoMe Forum officially came into existence on Dec 22, 2006 following a naming competition. Horological Meandering (HoMe) was coined by MarkS , but there were many great suggestions: MainSpring, AboutTime, The Watch Pub, The Chronologium and WATCHing, to mention a few.
Meandering derives from the Latin , meaning “circuitous windings”, and the Greek , referring to the winding Maeander River in Turkey. While some might take it to mean moving aimlessly, I prefer to think of it as taking a more interesting journey. It is by doing this that we can come to a deeper understanding of the topics under consideration.
Officially this is the forum where we discuss general horology, watches that do not have dedicated brand forums, clocks, and anything related to the world of watchmaking. But as this is your home, I am interested to hear your suggestions as to how we can make HoMe even more interesting and fun. What would you like to see here? What topics should we discuss? Although we may not be able to achieve it all, any thoughts are welcome.
I want this general forum to be your HoMe away from home.
Looking forward to your suggestions.
Regards,
Andrew

" Officially this is the forum where we discuss general horology, watches that do not have dedicated brand forums, clocks, and anything related to the world of watchmaking ".
What this forum needed was to have ITS Moderator.
It is now done, and I'm sure that, thank to you, it will be even more interesting than it already was.
As for every forum or website, it is a matter of editorial line, and with you, it is not a problem at all.
The only thing we should have more is some technical posts, where the bases of Horology are explained " How a watch works ", technical terms and definitions, well, you get the idea.
Something clear to be understood by anyone here.
Best, my friend.

and laid out in layman's language as not all are engineer/technically trained.

Lots and lots and lots of pictures.
Big ones. Little ones. Colourful ones. Monochrome ones. Recent ones. Old ones. Ones with borders. Wrist shots. Static shots. New watches. Old watches. Broken watches. Disassembled watches. Precious watches. Rare watches. Famous watches. Common watches. Funny watches. Amanico's collection....
... and more pictures.
Cheers,
pplater.
The rest of this lot on the Omega forum, please follow amanico's thread on the Seamaster 300. Matt

with the idea of more technical/educational posts. For those of us not in the industry, or new to the interest/obsession, this is a great place to learn from a large number of knowledgeable people. I would also like to see more general questions about any topic related to watches that invite opinions from forum participants. I find it interesting to hear differing views on debateable subjects ( an example would be all the interest sparked by the Devon tread watch, and why people liked/disliked it ). This is the best place on the site to have such discussions, because of the broad nature of topics that can be covered here.

Hi All,
Thanks for your comments; participation is what makes this a great forum.
Several of you have a desire for more technical articles, particularly starting with the basics of watchmaking. I have said before that one of the early strengths of ThePuristS was the balance between the technicality and the art of horology. We have been fortunate to have the participation of watchmakers over the years. Unfortunately your new Moderator in no such person, but I will endeavour to include more technical articles. If anyone wants to choose a topic and post on it, feel free!
In the meantime I will be slowly organising past posts into a Reference Section and will certainly be grouping these more technical posts. Remember you can use the “Forum Search” function to find much of this as well.
For those of you who haven’t heard, can I point out that a new edition of George Daniels classic “Watchmaking” will be released at the end of the year? So if you were looking for the perfect Christmas present for the WIS in your life (that’s you), this could be it.
And you want to see more and better pictures. Personally I would love to have a Watch Photography Forum to share specifics. The logical place would be in combination with the WristScan Forum where we already push our skills each Friday. If we keep this idea in the back of our minds I hope it will come to fruition. Like all forums here, it starts off with an idea and a will to ‘make it so’.
A commentary by various industry leaders and interested Purists is a great idea. We will plant that seed and see how it grows.
And finally we have literally thousands of lurkers (I was one once) who read Purists more or less regularly. If they were to start just one thread each, we would have months of material. So I second Daos’ plea for all to contribute. Just do it!
And thanks again for your interest and support for PuristS in general, and the HoMe Forum.
Andrew
