The PPRO Executive team has no time to waste with these silly posts.
Nor our dear members.
So the " treatment " will be very simple:
Locked Thread and Ban, without any warning.
Impalement could also be another tempting solution.

Please, do not respond to these posts, let them die with their author, we do the rest.
Best, and sorry for the inconvenience.
Nicolas, aka Vlad the Impaler, who is loosing patience.

Glad to see fast Shinkansen style action being taken!
Thank you for assuring my heart and soul once more, that this place indeed, is THE place to be for all things Haute Horlogerie.
Merci beaucoup!
Et a beintot!
Stephen
cause that thingy was starting to bug me big time ... Thanks Nicolas .
Have a nice day.

With added visibility comes added responsibility.
We have to treat guests as if attending our cocktail party. Politely listening hosts and only take action when there is sufficient evidence to convict.....er....Impale like Vlad.
It takes time for these unsavoury elements to render themselves persona non grata, whereupon they are asked to leave the party. Some of these miscreants take a while to establish their true colours......
The community can act faster than a few moderators. Unlike our garlic...er...gallic.... friend Vlad, the rest of us need to sleep sometime!

me for sure. Your intentions are good but I think the cons outdo the pros here. Reminds me of how Patek requires applications for some of their pieces. Turns me off not that I can afford them. OT apologies.
I think this place also endeavors to spread the passion of horology to new comers as well and your suggestion would seems to favor preaching to the converted which is counter to the proposed objective if indeed it is one of the objectives to begin with.
My first post asked for advice for a first mechanical watch purchase. I surveyed all the watch sites and this was the only one that was approachable. A quiz would have sent me away for sure and I don't know that I would have discovered this wonderful hobby.

Hi Snak,
I have heard this before, but it always surprises me. While I did lurk for some time before posting on PuristS, it was only because I didn’t feel I had sufficient experience or knowledge to contribute much. However, when I did post, I was welcomed. And in the years since, I virtually never see questions or owners’ watches being dismissed or belittled.
So was I ever intimidated? Perhaps awed by some of the high end watches and the knowledge of members, but not by their behaviour or posturing. And the people who are posting to show off don’t last too long in my experience.
Invite your friends over!

I'm a fortunate guest here for some 2 years now. I joined as a total noob and being non-mechanical inclined in most things, I asked more sily questions.
A member here ticked me off saying I should have at least a certain level of horologocal knowledge to participate here. I was so pissed and coiunter posted that if that was the case, I was not right for purist and purist was not right for me. In short, I told myself #$&% this site. But before my detest for that unwelcoming post, a couple of mods chimed in to welcome me and to put that poster in place saying this place is a place that welcomes all levels of horological collectors and interest. One of them even PMed me to ask away (I bet the 2 mods are regretting that now
)
I was and still am very grateful to those mods who chimed in and still chat and banter once in a while with the mod with explosive hair
. The flip side is, becuase of that intervention which would have pushed me away, I have spent quite a bit of this time consuming
hobby. Maybe on hindsight, I would be more grateful if those mods did not chime in and I was lefte to be turned away by that obnoxious poster.
Seriously, Purist continues to be, for me, par excellence for online horological info. Not that its perfect but vis-a-vis what's out there, its there standard to match and beat (ok purist owners, christmas is around the corner so I'm expecting my Purist LE H1 in return for this plug). No sites are perfect, in fact far from it. However, to have a quiz like thingy or some test to join, I;d say #$&% that again.

and seriously, i have no idea what anyone is talking about.
Graham
i think instead of our biological birthyear, perhaps we should list our horological birthyear? henceforth, i will be known as Hororgasm since 1996
