Hi All,

Does a picture speak a thousand words? We have been discussing the 'value' of tourbillons in a wristwatch a few threads down. But I think it's time to remind ourselves about the poetic beauty of these mechanical wonders.

There are other ones that I love but really out of my salary-slave budget.

But Cenjkt's rose gold with MOP dial is much much more unique, and suck a beaut!!

The Haldimann H1 without doubt. And the platinum version of the Tradition Tourbillon has been on my radar for a while. While I love the original yellow gold of the 'basic' La Tradition, it's all a bit much in the Tourbillon. I think the Pt version with the varying shades of grey is a wonderfully modern update and ties in nicely with the silicon balance spring and titanium Tourbillon cage in my mind. Old world meets modern world. Yummy!

My favorite watch is the Omega central tourbillon . . .

. . . but, difficult as it is to explain, and perhaps even harder to believe, is that the tourbillon is incidental to the fascination it exerts on my senses.

Durian, a tropical fruit which can illicit immense desire or disgust. Personally, I conform to the former after hesitantly sampling the first bite many years ago.

2 of my very favourite Tourbillons, here.

I'd add the Freak Diavolo, just to be sure that it is a Tourbillon, which I'm not sure if we speak  about the " normal " Freak.

And a JLC Gyro I, for the pleasure of the eyes and of the soul, for the good measure.

Like you, Art, it is difficult to put in words, but the Tourbillon is something which fascinates me, less than a Minute Repeater, but still strongly enough to consider one in my collection.

My biggest mistake was to sell the one I owned, a JLC Reverso platinum Nr 2, not skeleted, though.

although not nessesarily because they are tourbillons. as Art has said, its the aesthetics of the watch that are more important than the actual tourbillon inside.

my immediate purchase, should miracles happen, would be the Omega Central Tourbillon. a beautiful looking watch in its own right. my favourite model is the RG/chocolate pvd skeleton, but the earlier platinum with dials are also beautiful.

here's a pic of the one i own and the only one i can afford. it has a chinese sea-gull movement and works perfectly.

 

i bought this watch purely because it is a tourbillon and not for any aesthetic reason.
