Horological Meandering

I am seeking your opinion on a upcoming purchase that I need to make. I am deciding on the gift that will be given to me for a special occasion. This must be a good long term choice, since I can never sell this one.

This is what I have been leaning towards...

Something with a light dial and blue or silver hands, as my other watches are dark dials. I want something that is not overly large or sporty, not a trendy style, something more classic or traditional. I am not looking for a very dressy watch either, so something that can be casual.

A) Preowned IWC Portuguese 3714 (Blue hands, silver dial)
- Classic IWC, but is it OVER produced? Would I be better off saving for 5001?

B) Preowned UN Marine Annual Chrono (White dial blue hands)
- Nice dial, fan of UN, but I own a MMC43 black dial, so is this too similar? Discontinued model, is that good or bad?
C) New, due out later this year IWC Portofino Chrono
Drawback is that I haven't seen this in person, would like to purchase soon rather than wait until autumn, but it looks very nice.

But I would go on the 5001.

Classic, elegant, interesting movement, friendly complication: A winner.

as it has an in-house movement. In terms of horological interest, I guess the UN would be next but I am not too fond of that design so of the three you picture, I would go with the Portuguese chrono.

I really find the Portofino very disappointing, the UN is the most original with the best finishings but its design doesn't speak too much to me. Great watch by the way. The Portuguese chronograph is a nice watch but I would prefer to save money and to go to the 5001 which is not a chronograph but which has a beautiful automatic caliber.

So my choice would be:

1) 5001
2) UN
3) Portuguese Chronograph
4) Portofino

I have owned many watches over the years but the one that has endured in ny collection is the stainless steel Portuguese chronology with rose gold indices . It is a classic beauty and outlived more expensive pieces I have owned that have long gone
