Horological Meandering

I'm hoping some fellow PuristS can help me out.

I've recently started to really appreciate the fine finishing on the movment of my Calatrava.  The increasing temperatures mean that I'll be wearing the leather strap less and less and I'd like somehting I can wear to the beach. 

The Patek Aquanaut or Nautilus would be perfect but unfortunately the brushed bezel will be a scratch magnet.  Whilst I could add an exhibition back to a Submariner or a steel Datejust I'd be looking at a movement with only basic finishing.

I'm looking for a sporty type watch with an exhibition back, screw down crown and top of the line case and movement finishing.

Any suggestions?

.. Are a few that comes to mind. Richard Mille and Roger Dubuis also make exceptionally finished sports watches. Plenty to choose from out there

While the cal.39 movement isn't haute horology, it's in-house, features GO's trademark big date complication, and is extremely well finished; and GO's case and dial work are known quantities (to say nothing of their bracelets). Certainly an argument can be made that the Nautilus is pretty much the ultimate sports watch with an open back, but since you want to avoid those pesky bezel scratches (which also makes the Royal Oak a non-starter), the Sport Evo is tough to beat. To wit, my Sport Evo GMT'S bezel has proven to be remarkably resistant to wear and tear, and overall the watch is a joy on the wrist.

. . . I concur.  Based on the criteria johnswatch1 established, it's difficult to come up with another that's as deftly balanced. 

 

It even comes across as stately in gold, imho.

They created the luxury sports watch (as wonderfully perverse as such a concept is) and no one has done it better IMHO.

...brushed bezels being scratch magnets would then rule out the AP Royal Oak, which is my first choice when it comes to elegant sport watches (I love mine!) as you're facing the same issue with that piece.  Based on the criteria you put forth, I'd have to agree with some of the earlier posters that the GO Sport Evo comes to mind.  Pretty, somewhat technical-looking rotor with an elegant gold lip and double-G Glashutte Original logo, swan-neck adjustment, and Geneva striping on the caliber 39.

I second GO's sport evo with all the above mentioned (objective) attributes but I didn't like the specific design (subjectively,) so if you like the look and feel of it, it'd a very good choice for you.
Besides, there are many AP with rubberclad, ceramic or carbon bezels that stand scratches well and still look new. My favorite are Jarno Trulli, Rubens Barrichello II, new ROO from Basel 2011...and the list go on.
I wored an Aquanaut for a summer, the bezel is not as bad a scratch magnet as one might think, the deployment buckle, however, is more a scratch magnet, but can you really blame it to the exceptional finish of that very fine Calatrava cross engraving?
