NO KIDDING.
May.2012.
And in Singapore, May , but I have no control or invites.
If you work for the police, the talk in May later, will last 2 hours.
It is a great honor, and ThePurists will be mentioned.
I will take them into a journey of how the industry grew from almost NOTHING, into something that demands immediate consumer protection against all sorts of con artists who are masquarading as watchmakers and "enthusiasts", while the only passion they have is that for the money we worked for.
The number of STUPID brands with history dating back 100 years and more is INCREDULOUS.
The margins made are so STUPIDLY HUGE.
Please, buy your watches from GOOD old time retailers, and have a HIGH INDEX of suspicion for any retailer with a 2 year history!!!!
Also....do not support snobbery.
Be on your gaurd against anyone who polishes your ego, and ignores people who have fallen on hard times.
As it stands, I am not proud to be known as a watch collector....because it reeks of money that should be MORE wisely spent.
The way to get back respect, is to raise the respectability of buying an expensive, but worthy watch in the first place.
I will be hated by new retailers for writting like this...but it is true.
BUY used watches, or buy from GOOD OLD LONG TRACK HISTORY retailers if you are new (2 years or less) into this hobby.
There was a time, back before 2006, that being a seller of watches made you more trusted than a doctor.
Today, even doctors are sharks!

To be honest, Bernanrd, I am a bit lost with your last posts, and please do take in count that I make a lot of efforts, I go to Bernard's School to try to learn Bernard's language...
Best,

But please focus on the points of 'manufactured' history, the view of the general public and the 'position' of watches as wise investments [is that an oxymoron?]. And the levels of 'trust' we have in authorised dealers and watch boutiques.
Andrew
Ps. Remember our 'virtual cocktail party' and that I trust you all to be great company!

Clarification please, not a clue what you're talking about.
As it stands, I am not proud to be known as a watch collector....because it reeks of money that should be MORE wisely spent.
What's the link to Interpol? Do you think people should be proud of being watch collectors? It's just a hobby, unless you're doing it for investment, in which case pride doesn't come into it either.
The way to get back respect, is to raise the respectability of buying an expensive, but worthy watch in the first place.
So buying a Patek is not currently regarded as a respectable activity? Clarification please.
I will be hated by new retailers for writting like this...but it is true.
I doubt it: they won't be able to follow your post any more than I can.
BUY used watches...
Agreed. I've been doing so for over a decade.
...or buy from GOOD OLD LONG TRACK HISTORY retailers if you are new (2 years or less) into this hobby.
Why?
There was a time, back before 2006, that being a seller of watches made you more trusted than a doctor.
Cr@p! If you insist on the point, where is the evidence, the anecdotes, the facts...?
Today, even doctors are sharks!
WTF????
Sorry, Bernard, but I genuinely don't have a clue what you're going on about. This seems to be one of your usual stream-of-consciousness rants made up of non sequitors and unsubstantiated sound bites. If there's a concrete theme I certainly can't detect it.
If you genuinely want discussion on any of the points, please would you give us the info so we can join in.

What is the title / subject of your speech?
You make me feel that collecting watches is a dangerous hobby.
I hope that you don't mention about the Purists to Interpol unless this forum can be protected by Interpol.
Enjoy your speech!

-, but there are certain truths in his cautions. Though I disagree with his arbitrary approach...retailers under two years for example(!), just let this episode slide. Read his great posts on Seiko above...Except the 2 year retailer. Wrong statement...
I was trying too hard to include a "global" scenario.
This post I made has MORE nonsense than sense.
Even I have to figure out what I said.
But assure you, most of your time was not wasted.
Taht's why I rushed to 33...as a person, I know when I have talked nonsense too. Sorry.
... I will lock this post.
Thankyou for the honesty, Bernard.
