Horological Meandering

During the past weeks I was able to take photos of an outstanding Breitling collection.

This collection belongs to a dear friend and I was able to persuade him to share those beauties with us.

I will start this week with a series of advertising from the 70's and, as we go, I go to post pictures of watches that are on those adverts.

Let's start:

1) The advertising

One, "live", as a teaser of things to come:

The Chronomat 1808.3: Huge size (for my wrist), Caliber 11/12 but dresses nice.

More, much more, to come. Older (much older), modern and unusual ones.

Answering your question: Yes, they belong to a single collection.

All of the watches are chronographs. The oldest one has a porcelain dial!!

A porcelain dial Breitling is a very rare beast indeed.

Here's my modest latest Breitling find, just came through the post today.

A promotional item for the early chronomat, the outerscale rotates.

He seldom wears a Breitiling and I was surprised when he asked if I could take "some" pictures from his collection.

Then, one day, he arrived with some big bags and I started to open and ... UAU!

I just wonder how many collections exist that we will never learn about. Collections that the owners do not show to anyone and just have a "solitary pleasure" by themselves.

who have collections in the hundreds and they keep them pretty quiet.

However most collectors I know love to share and talk about them, even if they're
more wary about anouncing just what they have.

Want to share but they have a few factors to block:

1) They don't know how to take pictures and, much more, how to post a picture.

2) They have security issues, in special where I live and on other places as well.

3) They hate people asking "how much?", because they NEVER sell the items that they accumulated over decades.

Join those cases and you have many collectors that we never go to see what they have.

I hope you dont mind if i interrupt by posting a poor pic of the earliest Breitling i ever owned, 1938. One of several pilots watches filmed for the antiques roadshow in 2006 if memory serves correct. Sadly it never got to the final cut as the owner didnt come across well on tv. I wonder who that could have been. Anyway the pic

I havent owned many, an 809 cosmonaute, a 1806 navi chrono matic, a 70's thing i think called the speedster, my favourite, a spatiographe and i currently have a sublime 1964 806 Navitimer.

Nothing compared to what we will see is my guess.
