What about that!

Surprising of course but when we know that Richard Mille never does things half way, I'm always very curious to see what such unusual novelties are about.
You certainly remember the 38-parts complicated Richard Mille Automatic Cufflinks made of Titanium a couple of years ago:

Well, we now are discovering
a new RM interpretation of a tool for men: his RMS05 Mechanical Fountain Pen.What to emphasize about it? Here are some interesting elements to know.
It is made from the
NTPT carbon-based material used in the latest cases from the brand and coming from the Sailing competition field. When you know how hard this material is, you can imagine what it must be like to make round elements for this pen.
As many of RM watches, the little mechanism is made around a Titanium baseplate and is a direct link with the watchmaker's original skills and know-how.
This
movement (yes, it is a movement like the one you find in a watch)
is used to animate the kinematic way out of the nib.
The pusher activates the mechanism which is equipped, like a watch caliber, with an escapement feature and so on. The nib is then pulling out of the pen in a slow motion.
The movement and the pen body parts are all finished as RM watches are: microblasted, hand-polished edges, etc...

They in fact applied all what is need to finish a watch in the best manner, in the field of a fountain pen.
I think this is really cool... as a modern machine, as something related to the watchmaking world, for the complication and animation... I imagine the price is significant but I love that.
We'll certainly see videos of this pen and I'm eager to see them.
