Richard Mille

A week ago, Richard Mille opened its second boutique in Asia, right here in Singapore. Situated on the ground floor of the Meritus Mandarin Hotel along Orchard Road, it occupies prime real estate.

The interior is appropriately sleek and modern, but more importantly, the boutique is well stocked, and likely has one of the largest collections of Richard Mille watches in Asia. In addition to the basic 005 and 010 models, the store had the RM014 Perini Navi as well as several 002 and 003 tourbillons. The boutique will also receive the RM012 'tube tourbillon' in a couple of months.

Freddy, the boutique manager, kindly allowed me to snap photos of several of the watches. Here are some comparison shots of the discontinued RM005 and its successor, the RM0010. Both pieces are in white gold.

After handling and trying both, I find the RM010 has much better proportions than its predecessors; the shape and size of the 010 is very much similar to the tourbillons. The improved proportions are the main attractions of the 010, technically I can't discern much of a difference with the 005, except for the slightly gimmicky skeleton dial.

with the following caveats. The RM010 required a far greater re-think of the movement from Vaucher. The skeletonization was not easy and is not initially obvious on first inspection of the watches. was a little disappointing to me.  It was way too small.  I can't wait to visit Singapore now.
