will make a nice pair with the Red Reverso ... sigh sad ... not to be.

That would be tempting, indeed. ;) [nt]

Nice trio ...

The good (or great) - Europe version.
The bad - The red or impossible one.
The ugly (not so but I need to match the movie title) - The US version (way too much writing on the dial).

Of course, I own "The Good"!

Cheers,

Nilo

They didn't communicate a lot about it, since it was just for a charity auction and almost unique. [nt]

Being thehappy owner of both the DSAs -EU & US.. Love both, the EU a tiny bit more, maybe.. Have to say, the Red, how rare or expensive ( for charity reasons) they may be..

Sorry, never ever for me.. In fact, to me it's like deviation from the DSA genetics.
The Red is bold, yes..

But that's maybe the only thing going for it.. wink

The Red DSA, IMHO a totally other piece in appeal, signal & DNA, than the classy
EU.

For the Reverso, I love the Red version, there..

Alas - No, thank you for the Red DSA-watches,
but big Thank you to the owners & benefactors for Charity !

Interesting info, nevertheless - Thank you !

Best, hs
wink)

Nicely put, my friend. Thanks for your feedback. [nt]

Red Deep Sea AND an Atmos, actually ;-)

 By: cfn : October 5th, 2015-10:41
Hi Nicolas,

I went to the pre-auction show at Sotheby's as it took place close to where I live and I am a fan of both Apple (Jony Ive) and JLC (Marc Newson).

It was a very cool collection of stuff under the (RED) banner

JLC was there with the red Deep Sea

But you also had a red Atmos

...and a taste of some other red stuff ;-)

Since it was for charity, everything went for significantly more than the official Sotheby estimates.

Best,

Claus

Yes, I saw the Leica, too... Hmmm... ;) Thanks, Claus. [nt]

I used to own the EU version...

And although it was, and is, a very pleasant watch to wear/handle and look at (on all accounts), I do not miss it. Why? Somehow it always kept nagging in the back of my mind: "This is not the real McCoy" So I took the descision never to buy a tribute or re-edition watch (ie. fake vintage) ever again. And traded it in for something else.

Not fake nor vintage, but Tribute to a Vintage.

 By: amanico : October 5th, 2015-13:16
Not totally the same. A fake vintage is a vintage whose authenticity can be questionned. With the Tribute, it is clear: It is not a vintage, nor a fake, it is just a modern watch which pays a hommage to a vintage.

But I easily understand that you prefer to have the vintage... The Tribute is the next best thing... After the Vintage.

Best,

Nicolas

+1

Therefore it helps to compare the watches I wanted to compare.
Best,
Nicolas

I remember

 By: Brandon Skinner : October 5th, 2015-16:35
when this auction happened, I surmised  the high bidder was prepared to donated the $365,000 no matter what, and as a thanks he got a free watch!!! If this is the case, what the watch is worth or how it looks is really secondary to the cause and to the generosity of the top bidder. In this regard I am a huge fan of the red dial version!

Thanks Nico for the reminder... I had forgotten all about it.

Thanks for sharing this story, the grailwatch. [nt]

I suppose it is just an optical illusion

 By: KMII : October 5th, 2015-21:35
Namely the U.S. one appears a tad larger - which I suppose is not the case?

Of course this is not the case. This is due to the different size of the pics I found. [nt]

I would have accepted optical illusion due to longer minute markers and larger text, too ;) [nt]
