Master 8-Day
For some reason I was looking at Nico's April 2013 review of the (now current) versions of the Master Date and Master Calendar.
I had to chuckle at his understated observation that the previous version of the Master Calendar "did not go in the right direction, aesthetically speaking".
The makeover of those models has been a great success. I am wondering why the Master 8-Day was not given similar treatment.
The styling of the previous model was - shall we say? - clumsy, but to my mind the movement is lovely, and the big date and long power reserve make it an interesting model. But it seems to have been dropped entirely.
Is there any prospect that the Master 8-Day could reappear in a smaller, more elegant form? ( But without the day/night indicator, thank you! Most of us don't need a watch for that information.)
Though, there is one utility, about the day night indicator...
If coupled to a date, I mean. It helps you to correctly set the date. I mean, to know if you are in the AM or PM zone. Let' say it is 8 PM. You want to set the date. But you don't remember if you set it correctly when you set the date.
If you set the hour hand at 8, but AM, the date won't change at 12, but at midnight, as it should. With the day night indicator you avoid this kind of confusion.

Yes, I would like to see a simple 8 Days movement, too!

Yes I see your point. I suppose it might be useful in a complicated watch which is hard to reset. But I think that for watches with just a date and where the date can be set independently, it's easy enough to advance the time past midnight so you can set the time correctly.
But that's a detail. My main point is that it would be nice to see the watch updated!

If you want a nice 8-days JLC...
... you need to consider the Master 8 days perpetual or the Reversos with the 8 day movement. All these are stunning in my eyes, with different level of complexity depending on how you like your dials (Grande date, moon, reserve, petite second,etc.).
A 8 day movement is very useful. I wear my Master Ultra Thin everyday but it's a pleasure to wear my Reverso Grande Reserve on Fridays and weekend without having to reset it.
