Dear JLC fans
I need some help. My son is turning 30 in a few months and I’m looking to buy him a JLC
But biggest question is: what to buy for a young man with a budget between USD 10-14K
He is a young business man, very much into sustainable corporate behavior and a beginning collector (has an Omega Speedmaster Prof, IWC Portugieser and an IWC Mark VIII Le Petit Prince)
I’m thinking Master calendar. ?????

When I read business and first JLC, that what comes to my mind. Reverso-wise, there are some amazing models for all prices, from classy simple to classy complicated. Memovox is simple but so JLC.

A Reverso - the definitive JLC
So different from a round watch, with the bonus that he can always flip it back and forth while at those boring mgmt meeting. (In fact I think I’ll go put mine on right now.)

Hi Jurry, what a great idea for a gift to your son. I own several IWC watches and used to won a speedmaster so similair taste as your son. Older physically but 30 at heart...
If it is a watch for business/dress the Reverso tribute Night Day moon 2017 is one of my favourites
or the Original version posted here earlier by another member , ref 273.8.85 if i am not msitaken. JLC has many versions with different ref nrs..
there is also a version with large date and/or moonphase.
If it is for more casual/sporty this is a killer chrono , tribute to deep sea, the 2 register ref Q207857J is my favourite of the 2. there is also a memovox alarm in this serie 1 US LeCoultre version and 1 EU JLC version. But the latter are limited series so difficult to find.

Thanks for your kind words. Long time ago we decided to give our kids a more serious watch once they graduated from collage, once they pass 30 and once they land their first job.
Then we gave them one “in between” which was related to an unexpected yet cheerful private event.
So for the young man it will be watch number 4. And I just know little about the JLC brand other than that he likes it a lot.

+1 agree with Ron_W
Reverso Tribute Night Day Moon would be perfect and versatile for all events. It is totally different and nicely complete his collections.
However if you want to give something which is his style yet different, I suggest JLC Polaris Chronograph or even more different JLC Polaris Chronograph WT.
These two are nice modern vintage style. A bit more funky retro yet modern chic
The third option which IMHO is also very awesome
It is perfect for business as well as evening events.
Master Ultra Thin Perpetual (Stainless Steel) is a very elegant yet firm watch.
I prefer the black noble power but silver boutique edition is also rich gorgeous

But yes indeed the budget is approx that range as that’s about what we paid for my daughters Cartier. Plus our daughter in law will be the next one as she’s 28 now and has her first watch (Omega) as a start of her collection

Vacheron 56.... base model would be a definite no. Not Geneva-seal, clearly more poorly finished and with obvious unused jewel - once seen , always noticed. A super low water mark for the brand as you will know Mr 1921. 
Re Reverso, I tend to agree with Gerald Genta, a Reverso is more of a ladies choice.
Plenty of sustainable choices, take a look at the responsible jewellery membership website. Lange, JLC, VC, GP, GO,

Get him a steel sports Rolex (sub, gmt, daytona).
Or perhaps a white gold Day Date? Probably the most sustainable product you can give him. In every aspect.
If it needs to be dressy: please go for a ALS 1815. Because every single (Indie) master watchmaker I asked the question Patek or Lange has answered me: Lange. So ALS is the new watchmakers watchmaker.

I'd go in a slightly different direction....
I know from personal experience it is hard to always know what someone else would like the most when it comes to expensive gifts - I've missed the mark a couple times.
$10K to $14K is a nice sum of money. I would get your son's input into what he would like. You should just tell him that he is turning 30 and you are so proud of him that you'd like to buy him a nice timepiece to commemorate the occasion. Give him a sense of the price range and then arrange for the two of you to go shopping together. Pick the piece out together, it will be a very memorable experience for you both!
