In 2003, Jaeger Lecoultre unveiled the Master 8 Days in rose gold and, so called Antoine Lecoultre in platinum:
Then the very next years, we had a few limited series, in steel. Here " The Hour Glass " ( Japan ), 88 pieces:
And the sublime steel black dial, limited to 50 pieces.
Limited to 200 pieces, in platinum.

8 Days of power reserve, in 2003, for a manual winding movement, that was not that common!

I remember these.
JLC changed the look of their Master Control range with a thicker bezel and different hands. I like the look of the black one best although I’m not a fan of power reserve indicators. Nice to see them. Regards Kev.

My Master 8 Days is in Stainless Steel with a silver sunburst dial.
Love the swan neck regulator and the côtes soleillées layout of the Cal. 877 manual winding movement.
The Cal. 877 Movement in the Master Antoine LeCoultre won a Special Jury award in 2003 at the Le Grand Prix D'horlogerie De Genève http://www.gphg.org/horlogerie/fr/montres/master-antoine-lecoultre. My Master 8 Days has the same movement just without the signature on the movement.
This Stainless Steel version of the Master 8 days is a watch that is "Alive" in my opinion.
As throughout the day one can slowly observe different parts of the watch front change from the Half-frosted Dauphine Hands to blue small seconds, grande date, day/night indicator, and blue power reserve indicator. Even when the lights are off its lume comes on ^^

Aaah, this one... I can even tell you that I prefer this one to the Antoine Lecoultre ( platinum only, with A Lecoultre'signature on the movement. I find it more " alive ", as you rightly described it.
Another detail I like a lot is the presence of the swan neck, which tends to disappear.

I always appreciated this one. I almost moved on the regular edition steel piece
many years ago, but would have jumped at the opportunity of the black dialed version. How about a new piece with a new case, the same calibre with time only and the power reserve on the back? That would make me leap for sure.

This master 8 days is a very interesting JLC, i was really tempted by it while looking for my second JLC.
The only think that stopped me was the Day/Night indicator for which I did not see a need nor a use.
I went for the square version, the Reverso Grande Reserve and I do not regret my move.
But the movement is very interesting, very up to date with today's market. The back is lovely, swan neck brings an interesting feature, finish is high.
The black dial is to die for!

Unfortunately, it’s not a brand fault but the “groups”strategies that’s killed so many dreams. They kind of took the magic away, in name of... well you know.
It will be difficult to make collectors dream again, and to attract new ones.
