I fear that your observations will prove accurate with the passage of time and as more info will become available

Thanks. Regarding the informations about the new calibre... I hope so...

Thank you for your amazing and well thought out insight and information following this years DUO release from JLC

It is forever carved in the pages of history and so is the price in my head.  WOW. inflation really gets ya!=)

All kidding aside thank you for the time you've invested in this, Ben

My pleasure.

The price is due to the "golden number" slogan, which is not an exclusive Jaeger LeCoultre copiryght... It must have been registered by the entire watchmaking industry... #thegreatwatchmakingconspiracy

excellent post but the new case is much nicer and the DUOMETRE QUANTIEME LUNAIRE in steel

 By: christianch : April 9th, 2024-23:41
is actually priced right I believe. The older case was too geometric and heavy (at least with my experience with the Duometre dual time, now no longer in my collection).

The truth is that this line was always perfect so I applaud an incremental change: improvements in the movement, thickness (I think) and steel is great to keep the price a bit more reasonable. Size seems good but will have to see in the metal.
Christian

Well

I’ve always loved the master grande tradition case… but it’s not a new case nor a specific duometre case so… I’m disappointed

Don’t like the crown… which - even if my point of view is subjective - doesn't go well with the box's design.... It looks more like a wart than a mole...

I don't like the blue used either... I find it pale and cold/clinical.

I have mixed feelings about the price of steel. Admittedly, the price is not out of line with the finishes and the very special movement of the duometre... but it's just a little less than that of the gold model (boutique price before launch of new models)...On the other hand, the price of precious metal models is insane...

I can see why you might like the new line... but given the lack of novelty - apart from the design, which recycles various things - and the fact that I already own two of them... I'll pass on these three models. For the asking price, I'll buy something else...

I think that is good that such an important line as Duometre

 By: christianch : April 16th, 2024-08:23
has an incremental change and not radical one. For me the gold one was a bit bulky so I do look forward to try the steel.

My real concern regarding these type of complex watches is that there are very few people skilled enough to service them properly, making me think that if you send one in for repair

 By: aperna : April 9th, 2024-23:48
you may not see it for a very long time

Exactly

 By: E in PA : April 10th, 2024-07:34
This is why I didn’t buy the earlier as much as I loved it. If repair and services experiences with Reverso were an indication, I cannot imagine the cost and time for this one when my kids send it in 40 years from now.

In 40 years… don’t know

 By: Alfihar : April 16th, 2024-07:23
Today it’s €1800 and 2 months

You should not worry too much about it.

I sent my Duometre à chronographe for service a couple years ago. The watch went to Swizerland and the all operation took approx 2 months.
On a different note, I was lucky enough to try the new Duometre à chronographe yesterday (rose gold version) and was trully impressed by the watch and the new case. I would not say that the new case, is "better" than the original one, but it is extremely well crafted. It has lost its Germanic austerity and gained in softness and sophistication. The curved saphir also a great success, magnifying the dial.
One last thing: expect other lovely and cool additional releases from JLC in the coming weeks, but shhh...

Agree but

 By: Alfihar : April 16th, 2024-07:06
The case is cool but not new
The more open dial with the doomed sapphire is nice but with the longer lugs… the watch looks really bigger…
And the crown… the crown…

I can understand but…

 By: Alfihar : April 16th, 2024-05:50
A service costs €1,800 - which isn't that much considering the complexity of the movement and the number of parts (it's the price of a service for a much less complicated PP 5110) and it took me 2/3 months following the incident I suffered, which is reasonable compared to what I've seen with other brands.

Excellent work sir

To summarize: JLC’s golden years are behind them and they have become experts in reminding one of that.

Thanks

Unfortunately true for the golden years….

At last my friends, im back into my account

 By: Sebi : April 10th, 2024-17:52
took me weeks to figure which email was linked to the account...

Thank you for that excellent series of posts.
Indeed the new Duomètres are everything we knew they'd be.
One question that is bugging me at the highest level is.... if it comes with a pouch !
Where are the pouches ? How are they not compulsory with such pieces ?

I understand it is not snowglobe season, so Im restraining myself from going into that territory ;-)

No more snowglobe but a new golden rainglobe

La biz

What an incredible write-up!

I agree with many points you are making but still find it a good move to return the Duometre to the catalogue, as it adds something unique to the brand 😊👍🏻

Yes… the return is cool

The way they moon…. Less interesting

Thanks dear O! I finally took time to read your long post!

I agree with most of it when it is about dials, hands and crown. It is very hard to beat the original Chronograph which is in essence the ultimate Duomètre in my eyes.

On the case, it looks a bit slimmer but I am surprised by how much the glass actually protrudes, I don't like the side view so much. And I agree, a pity for the crown...

One thing I like is the removal of some of the writing on the dial. I don't like to be told what is what (chronomètre, duomètre, regulateur & heure).

Technically, like you, I would love to have a discussion with Christian Laurent. I still have this video in mind, which made so much sense. That's for me where the Duomètre dream started (barrels, one hand colour  per function, etc.) www.youtube.com (in french, sorry to the non-francophone ones)

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, it is good to get openly what people think!

Best,

E.

My pleasure

I like the master grande tradition case but not on the Duometre line…

The new doomed saphir case is nice but the dial is so more opened and with longer lugs the watch looks really big

As for the rest, I've already said what I had to say....

Fully agree Alfihar

Will not waste time with the new duometre. I cannot understand the new aesthetic as I much prefer the older one. It looks and feels different. The complications are boring. The movement is less beautiful as well with the change in material. Asking price is nuts and even if they paid me to wear I’d have to say I wouldn’t.

Wow, that's a strong statement. :))) The new movement is not in german silver???

Yes Mon Ami

I was told it is no longer German silver.

That's a pity. Unless ( and even if ) it is white gold...

Brass 😂😂😂

At a golden price 😜

I saw them in person yesterday….

First, your write up is well presented and covers a few of the flaws.

In some ways I like the case. The curves make it almost like a Ressence branded watch.  It helped a bit with the size.  The crown shape doesn’t impress me - I prefer the older version.

The things that likely make the platinum a showstopper for me (I have the steel and the platinum on order):

1.  No German silver movement.  Harder to work with so I assume they cut costs but officially they tell me it doesn’t age the way they want with white cases.  This was a marketing selling point in the old models so why the change in sentiment?

2.  The chrono hands on the platinum other than the second hand are silver like the time hands.  Why did they do this??  The gold by the way has blued hands aligned to compromise functions and silvered for time.  This is different than every Duometre chrono they have made.  I hate this change on the platinum.

3.  The salmon is slightly off colour to me.  Not sure why my eye doesn’t love it but it isn’t my favourite hew.

4.  Another sticking point.  JLC stopped putting deployant buckles in precious metal watches many years ago (they used to).  Here they are using the white gold pin buckle on the platinum watch.  They make a pin buckle in pt but aren’t using it.  Feels like another short cut.

Some poor iPhone pictures below.

Thanks for your very interesting feedback, Dave. I agree with all your points. The case, I think I could live with, even if I would have preferred the former case, reworked.

 By: amanico : May 26th, 2024-09:24
BUT give me an exciting dial with some exciting complications, and I could well be in. For the moment I am out. And I will always regret the german silver movement.
As for pin buckles, they are ok for me, ONLY if they match with the metal of the case.
Come on, they cannot make a platinum pin buckle for the platinum Duometres??? THAT is cheap!
Best, my friend
Nicolas

Thanks for sharing

Don’t know why… but each time I see the new duo on wrist they look bigger than the first gen…

It would be cool if you could post a similar wrist shot with the first gen side by side

The lugs looks longer and the doomed glass/dial are maybe the cause of this feeling.

And did JLC explain which barrel is powering the night and day and moonphase ?

Amanico think it’s the chrono barrel…

I guess that it’s the other one…
