First, this is my first post.  I have a few thousand posts on TZ and have lurked here some, but thought I would finally register and post here as well!

Anyway, as for my question.  I'm 22 and a college student (work part time as well), and am thinking of buying a stainless Master Control Automatic.  Reason I have picked this watch (looked at everything) is it seems to represent an outstanding value, I like it, and it is a great watch from one of the best manufacturers in the world.  It works as a fairly formal dress watch as well as something that would not look out of place with jeans and a T-shirt.

Any thoughts, comments, or words of encouragement (or persuasion even)?  I currently own an Archimede Pilot as my only mechanical watch, and a Seiko Black Knight as my 'beater' - so this watch will be a HUGE step up for me (what, 15X the price...)

I live in Reno and there is NOTHING in terms of watch shopping (other than the standard Omega, Rolex, B&M, etc.), and will be taking a 2 night trip to the Bay Area in the middle of April to look at this specific watch.  If I like what I see, I might go for it (will probably order from one of the large, authorized B&M dealers in LA).

Again, any words of advice or warning would be appreciated.  Is this watch, 'the one'?

As for the watch, indeed a great one.Classic, dressy, but you also can wear it with jeans...

but if you are coming to California to buy, you may want to choose somewhere other than LA. Send me a personal email and I can guide you to some shops in Carmel that will do much better than LA. Since you are a Nevada resident, you also get some other advantages! Nice choice.

I wear mine with jeans (mostly) and with the chocolate brown strap it gives it an air of casualness.

Secrets to success:

-Live at home (yea for me...)
-Scholarship and generous parents to cover most of school
-Nice part time job (though plenty of 40 hour weeks)
-Little bit of money from other things, but thats set aside, not for watches!
-Never paid a penny in interest on anything
-Drive an 11 year old Camry I bought outright when I was 18 and still drive it despite the fact I would not mind getting a 328i with a 6-speed manual and sport package.  The drivers side window does not work on my car, but it costs absolutely nothing to keep on the road!
-Saved hard, work hard, spend carefully, do without a lot of things that people my age find mandatory/obligated to buy

Its more about toil than having a silver spoon up my Khyber Pass.  What it boils down to is no real expenses and saving more than I spend.  No question I am lucky in life, but I do work my butt off and something like this watch is just something I want as a reward and taste of why I bother going to school, making smart choices, and all that (don't know where I am going with this...)

I started working when I was 17 and just saved and saved and saved.  However, when I break down how many hours I would have needed to work to buy this watch, its actually frightening (hundreds of hours, or a few months pay) vs. people on here who could probably buy it with days wages or small fraction of their bonus check (and I am going to college so I can be in that position someday!)  This is not some little thing I decided to pick up on my lunch break!!!

Well done for that and college.

Now, you just have to work on your PuristS ways, young Jedi........feel the Force.......post more often so we can get what young WIS are into these days. When SJX started, he kept it quiet that he was barely a teenager. All these years later, he is a moderator on our Daniel Roth forum.

I have lurked here for probably a year, but decided to come on over and see how it was here.  Compared to TZ, I guess a higher percentage of people have outrageous collections (and yes, there is overlap between the two forums).
