My first JLC was round, a MC Diver GMT. To me it is a fantastic watch and one that I will never get tired of wearing. However it does not fit very well under dress cuffs. My next JLC was a Reverso Duo. It looks beautiful, fits very well under dress cuffs and like its larger brother tells me the time in two time zones. The answer to the question then is both, rectangular for dress and round for sport.

I like both round and rectangular watches. But I definitively prefer round movement in round watches and rectangular movement in rectangular watches!

For example, I would not chose an uniplan but in a rectangular case. And I have recently considered a very nice day-date model that JLC proposed in 2 cases - rectangular and round. My preference went without hesitation to the rectangular model.

Then, if I look at my watches, the round models are over represented. Only 2 watches have a rectangular form: the Reverso DuoFace and the omega T17.

However, this does not mean that all my other watches have round cases...

... Among all my Memovoxes, the ref. E873, produced in the 70s, is not perfectly round but looks like an egg! Funky 70s

 

 

 

And I like that...

But tomorrow, my friend, this will be the Celebration of the Round Watches! LOL

it's one of the early JLC ultra-thins, featuring the movement which was to be the basis for the V&C K1014 and AP K2014. This particular one features an iconic JLC dial, which is simultaneously very simple, yet unique.

I believe that the AP version was cal. 2085, not 2014, though information is scarce.

now I am unsure whether AP used the same JLC base as V&C in this case. The above-mentioned 2085 is apparently based on an F. Piguet movement. However, just to confuse the issue further, I believe that the Breguet cal. 530 was based on the movement found in my new (old) JLC. So much for easy hints!

Hands down. The majority of my watches are round, but the most pleasure I get when wearing a watch is looking down at my Reverso, GT size. It sits perfectly on my wrist and looks stunning under a shirt cuff. Rectangular it is.

Seems that the Reverso is one of the fav, indeed!

.. the watch industry comes up with a watch in which the hands move around in squares instead of circles, I prefer a square case.

Until then, I guess it just makes sense that hands move in circles in a round case

. . . as the only type of watch that I can justify on the basis of necessity is a steel sports watch. I have a few pure dress vintage watches already, and my G O's perform double duty as casual and dress watches; what I need is a tough, no-nonsense steel sports watch, preferably on a bracelet, to accompany me on weekend visits to my favorite seaside bars and pool-halls. A Rolex Milgauss or Omega Railmaster are at the top of my list for the next acquisition, and I'm hoping that the new line of Omega movements finds it's way into the Railmaster next year so that I can finally make a decision. The Reverso pictured is one of my favorites, and happens to be identical to the one in Steve G's collection, with a gorgeous skeleton movement . . . unfortunately, my wrist shots didn't turn out well, but as Scott can attest, it was a complementary design on my wrist.
