So the point is, now you need 4 Tribute to Polaris, the two '65 models, and the two dial versions of the '68!!

I will hunt a ' 65 Original Polaris a bit harder than I did till now, for sure...

And I will try to pick a Lecoultre Edition, with this nice Gilt Dial.

I'm also hunting the European Version of the Deep Sea Alarm...

Hi Nicolas,

 I would want to miss any of your review or should i say "introduction" to the new Polaris since you said is NOT a re edition. As you have pointed out Memovox and Polaris are both quite simillar in nature except the revise caliber in Polaris,i do not see any special justification to purchase a piece specially for the sake of History???

If history is an unavoidable part in watch collection then we MUST already ahve simply thousand of pieces in our wardrobe/safe.LOLOLO....

Just my thoughts and want to listen to your argument here...

1/ The interest of the Polaris, compared to the Memovox :

I think you speak of the Amvox I ?

If this is the case, the answer is easy: The Amvox I is the Hommage to the Polaris, and nothing can beat a re edition, even if some things are very close between these 2 watches.

If you speak of the Memovox Compressor, it was presented as the daughter of the Polaris, borrowing some elements to the Polaris, but being a very different watch, IMO.

If you speak of the Memovox Vintage E 855 Black Dial, here again , you have an urban watch ( the 855 ), and a Diver watch...Some elements are common, here, but a lot of differences between these 2 watches...

2/ The Justification to add another piece for the Sake of Hikstory is as good as adding another Perpetual Calendar to your collection...LOLOLOL

The Justification is the Passion, my friend...

And I'm sue you know what I'm talking about!

Nicolas, thanks a lot for such a great in-depth report of the Polaris Re-Edition. Your work is truly great asset to this forum.

I have a question. Will JLC change the dial from later batch (yellow/brown) of the '68 Polaris to first batch dial (orange ones) if the owners send the Poaris back to JLC service?
Do you know a clear answer for this question?

JLC didn't want to have too much delay with these Polaris, so the very first batches come with the orange indexes, as to respect their promises to deliver the first watches before the end of this year...

BUT, all the first owners received their '68 Re Edtion with a letter, explaining that they will have the possibility to get the other dial, more yellow, less orange, for free if they decide so before Dec 2009.

Of course, it will be done for free...

BUT this solution is a non coming bakc solution: Once you decide to go on the normal dial, you cant' ask to change it agzin for the orange one.

AND the owners of the further yellow brown dials won't be able to ask for the orange one, as this dial wasn't the one for the Polaris 68.

So the orange dial will ba a very rare bird.

Hope this answer will help you to understand the situation.

Clearly understood. Too bad because I won't be able to know what I am gonna receive. Only 1 out 10 people will get the orange-ish indexed dial.
As I said before, this is like Panerai 292 with Pig, which I never liked the idea of treating customers not equally. It doesn't matter I am one of the 10% or not.

thank you for not using the Calypso Hands, i hate them with a passion...

hopefully my 68' comes soon... and i hope for the orangish markers... because i feel it looks more dated as i want the watch to look...

like Calypso hands but I don't hate them. May I ask why you don't like so much?

long time no talk.

the calypso hands just frustrate me, stems from the Amvox pieces... first i feel the minute hand is way too "loud", secondly it covers up the date window when its anywhere between 14 and 16 minutes, third it throws the dial off balance as the dial seems to look heavier wherever the minute hand it.... its just not clean at all.. not clean for cleanliness but clean as in it flows.

i will never own another amvox because of those hands as everytime i would look down i would get the feeling my minute hand was a snake and it just ate a giant mouse!. lol.

but more like Panerai story (such as 292 with Pig). I hope you get what you want. I believe dial change should be allowed both direction, not one-way.

As for the Calypso Hands, yes, it was a solution, but sometimes criticized by some collectors, do JLC decided to go on the more classical and traditionnal hands.

Many thanks for this impressive post.  Wonderful watches, but I have to say the Calypso hands would have finished the design off for me.  I can see from some of the follow up that not many people seem to favour them, but to me they just add that finishing touch to a classic piece.  Good job we're not all the same I think, adds to the spice of life!

So, what to do?

To create a polemic about these hands even if repertoried by JLC, or to go on a more classical solution?

I think that JLC took the right decision with these more traditionnal hands.

Yes, this was an exciting adventure, indeed.

As I tried to demonstrate in my review, the job made by JLC on the release of this watch is absolutely remarkable, and very faithful, compared to the original, which is not an easy task at all!
