Team PuristSPro was invited to the unveiling of the Limited Edition Amvox2 Chronograph Racing and the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Aston Martin 24 Hours of Le Mans racing victory.




We were warmly greeted by the lovely and always stylish JLC Beverly Hills Boutique Manager Stephanie.

Also welcoming guests was PuristS favorite JLC PR Manager Kate M.  She's always smiling and cheerful but today there's even more to be happy about,  something very special from Jaeger LeCoultre is on her wrist! 

The city of Beverly Hills is a perfect environment for the Aston Martin DB9!  Lots of the tourists were drooling at the sight of such a exotic car.



As we head inside for champagne, fine wine, and hor d'oeuvres we see some special JLC's!

Jaeger LeCoultre and Aston Martin

Jaeger-LeCoultre is celebrating this event by presenting two limited editions of the AMVOX2
Chronograph Racing model, which is still the only chronograph operating without push pieces
thanks to its revolutionary patented vertical-trigger system.

For the first time, the AMVOX2 Chronograph Racing limited editions are distinguished by
carbon fiber chronograph counters evoking several structural elements of the LOLA Aston
Martin prototypes competing on racing circuits, such as the monohull chassis, brake discs and
pads capable of withstanding temperature of over 300 degrees Celsius without the slightest
technical hitch. There is indeed no shortage of common denominators between the latest
racing car prototype developed by Aston Martin and the revolutionary AMVOX2 chronograph
conceived by the “Grande Maison” in the Vallée de Joux. Echoing the V12 engine powering the
two LOLA cars equipped with a six-speed sequential control transverse gear-box, the 751E
chronograph movement is distinguished by the ingenious nature of its levers that transmit
pressure on the watch glass to the movement in order to control the functions of the vertical-
trigger chronograph.

Inside the display case:

JLC's Calibre 751E automatic movement provides 65 hours of power reserve inside the 44mm x 5.65mm case.  The Amvox2 Chronograph Racing is available in titanium or black PVD coated titanium.

Available in a White or Black dial.

Waterproof calfskin and leather strap with matching orange stitching on a double deployant

Here's a view of the unique sliding lever for the chronograph functions

Rhodium plated brass hour and minute luminous hands.  Note the high tech look of the carbon fiber chronograph counters, very cool!  These JLC commemorate  the 50th anniversary of the victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the '1959 - 2009' designation.

The Aston Martin logo spins around in the seconds display disc.

The JLC Amvox2 Chrono Racing meets the Aston Martin DB9!

Black or white dial?  Excellent choice either way!

Jaeger LeCoultre hand crafted, assembled, and decorated in the Vallee de Joux, Switzerland.  Aston Martin, hand built in England.  A perfect partnership!

that the aston martin logo is green and apart from a limited editino of te AMvox1 (with a green dial, if I am not mistaken), the "british racing green" is less popular than orange.

nice serie of pictures. I regret that the case is PVD titanium. A ceramic case could/would be sooooo nice.

Maybe orange color is popular as it is bright to draw the eyes more?  If you look at an instrument cluster, the indicator of the speedo, rpm's,etc it is wise to use this color.  I think JLC was invoking the racing partnership that they have had with Aston Martin's interior cabin timing instruments.

As for PVD vs Ceramic coating, sometimes when the design team wants a certain shade of black to go with the aesthetics of the piece ceramic might not be appropriate.  There are certain things where PVD is the preferred route.

not a ceramic coating but the massive ceramic case of the Amvox 3 which is the "new material" and finish that impressed me the most by far.
JLC has invested in the equipment to produce the ceramic cases ( Amvox 3, reverso polo fields) and the equipment to machine and finish them to such high level of quality.
We obviously can trust JLC to select a good PVD coating, but PVD coating tends to wear out in a couple of years. Also PVD coating makes the scratches "shine" a lot more. Good thing that JLC proposes the limited edition with or without the PVD coating.

Fro the orange and the britsh racing green, I have to say that the orange looks really good. your picture of teh watch just above the aston MArtin flying wing made me realize that there is a particluar green in the A.M. logo that JLC has not used yet. I suppose it could happen in a later serie, for exemple.

The AMVOX1 R-Alarm employed a green that may have reflected the green of the AM logo, if it did not accurately duplicate the color.  But my impression has been that version of the AMVOX1 was not the most popular perhpas due to the colr or perhaps to the size of the watch or some other reason...In any case, the R-Alarm may have warned JLC off from doing much with the color in future watches.  Just speculation on my part, however.

The green can be a difficult color to wear, and particularly the way it was used on the R-Alarm, it might be a very difficult watch for some people to wear on a daily basis.  I for one think that the R-Alarm, both the titanium and the platinum versions, is a stunning watch and I thought long and hard about getting one or the other.  No other watch lloks like it.

Nothing could be more impressive than pulling up to the JLC Beverly Hills Boutique in a Aston Martin DB9.  The roar of the V12's 470 hp had everyone's attention.

Ms. Francesca Smith, PR Manager for AM North America arrives in style!

Cool watch...check!  Cool car...check!  Cool shades...check!

A very big Thank You to Francesca for sharing her time and automobile expertise with us.  Your knowledge of Aston Martin products, history, and innovation is truly impressive.  I was enlightened by your answers to my many technical car questions. 

Francesca gives us a detailed tour of the features that make Aston Martin a world renowned builder.  We start with a hand painted and kiln fired Aston Martin badge.  As with JLC, Aston Martin's hand craftsmanship is a marque of the brand.

Underneath the hood reveals the 5.9 liter V12 producing a tire burning 470 hp!  Although it is a front engine car on a aluminum bonded frame, notice that the motor is set towards the fire wall for better weight distribution.  The DB9 utilizes a proprietary carbon fiber drive shaft.

When opened, the door opens out and slightly upwards to prevent possible scratches to the bottom of the door.

The designers wanted to preserve the classic look of an Aston Martin so the front hood extends all the way to the front grill.  This gives that aggressive and unmistakable stance and style.

Transmission is available in a 6 speed or a innovative world's first 'shift by wire' automatic.  Paddle shifters found on the auto is crafted out of magnesium.  The interior boast the best hides from Bridge of Weir of Scotland, alacantara lined roof, and aluminum accents.

This DB9 is a 2+2 sports coupe.

Thanks for the compliments and glad you are happily enjoying the photos!   You have sharp eyes, I was wearing my favorite JLC that day...my  MC Chrono 46!  I was fortunate enough to spend some wrist time with all three watches and could have stared at the that JLC tourby spinning around all day.  Do you prefer the White or Black dial?

I am a little heavy on black dial watches at the moment, so a white dial appeals to me more.  I am also not a big fan of black cases in general, with some exceptions.  You can't go wrong with either of these racing editions, though, can you?

I hesitate a lot between the white and the black dial...With a very light preference for the white...

As it looks a bit like a modern reinterpretation of the Paul Newman Chrono...

But I will come back to spea about these 2 models in some weeks.

Hmmm.....

If you ask me to choose from the two,i would prefer the black to the white ones.

Black with the two case in black definately bring out the out look from far and the dial's combi are far more masculine and have this racing-hot blood flows in your adrenaline like impression.Whereas,

white ones looks much more formal with classy touch.

These are just my 2 cts thoughts....

The DB9 would be my choice out of the current Aston lineup.  Looks like a fun event.  Great cars, great watches, all in sunny Beverly Hills.  It's a hard job, MW, but somebody's got to do it, right?  You lucky, fella!    Thanks for the great pictures and informative posts.
