recently a modest vintage memovox (from the 70s) joined my collection. It is real comfortable to wear with the cushion shape case. I love it. The dial has some scars of non expert servicing I suppose, but I like its design very much.
One problem I have: the crowns are not original (for sure, as they carry the logo of another famous brand!) and I was wondering if anyone had a similar model in his/her collection to share a picture of the "good" crowns so that I know how they should look like.
thanks in advance...
That one thing to have an idea of the correct crown, that's another thing to find them.
BUT, with a little luck, you may be surprised, and find that the crowns on yours are the same than on a more current model, like the 871 / 872.
Let's see if Clavi has a pic to share...
Best,
Nicolas
that someone has a similar model and posts a picture of the good crowns. I know that as you said, it is one thing to know how they look and another different thing to be able to find spare to replace the "wrong crowns".
but, my effort is rather in a documenting effort. I wish to know how the original crowns look like. I know that finding good crowns can go from difficult to impossible depending on the models and, I would still wear the watch very happily even with the "wrong crowns", but I think that, as a collector I would have done my best to know how the original watch looked like.
after that, luck can put the crowns right next to my nose or very vry far away ...
Should be something like this...in silver of course
That is the typical shape (small / thick, small anchor JL logo) of the crowns usually found on US Monobloc cased memovox.
This illustration was randomly found on the web, since I tend not to collect US memovox too much (too many different models, of usually quite lesser quality compared to European ones), so I don't have that one model.
That beeing said, the above example from Time2tic is a nice example, superior to most of the US Memos. A nice one with a nice dial too !
well I am a happy man.
I had found a picture of a cushion shape memovox with a white dial, and the crowns on that one looked even more doggy than mine.
this pictrue clarifies the situation very well and I know what to look for (even if the frantic search looks like finding a needle in the haystack).
when there is a wish, there is a way ...
That sure is a good looking Memovox. Scars or no, that blue dial is beautiful. Hope you can find the correct crowns and restore your new piece to its original state.
