After much consideration, and also for a special birthday like Boris
below, I tried to place an order for a Reverso Grande Automatique. My AD
is told the RGA is discontinued, and his buyer is trying his best. I
phoned the Boutique in London, and they confirmed that it was
discontinued two years ago! They have one in pink gold remaining, but I
want steel. Pity the website doesn't mention it, and none of the ADs
were aware of it either...
The Automatique is the least
expensive of the Reverso line, and I really had my heart set on it. I'm
currently pricing the others such as the GMT, Grande Date and Sun Moon,
but alas, I suspect them to be outside my budget.
Does anyone
know of how the Reverso range is going to change this year?
Well, I will have to contact JLC to ask them which model is discontinued, without having to wait for the release of the new Catalogue, which will take time.
In 2009, several watches were discontinued, and I don't know them all.
In 2010, I was more concentrated on the novelties than on the discontinued watches, but it is always interesting to know.
In August 2009 I talked to my AD about the Reverso Grande Automatique SS which I had a lot of interest in (a Grande Reverso combined with the Autotractor Hometime movement seemed ideal to me). We found out that is was missing in his documents and so he called JLC. He was informed that it was discontinued and that there were even no samples left at JLC. Maybe you will be able to find left over at a dealer's store.
If this makes you any better, I personally think that a Reverso ideally should be a manual hand-wound watch, not automatic. Perhaps a Reverso 976 if you are tight on budget?
