I've been thinking about adding a JLC for some time now, perhaps something like the Dualmatic. I really like everything from the size to the quirky and distinct design, but I need my daily wearer to be very robust, which is the reason I mostly wear various Rolex sport watches. Can something like the Dualmatic take a beating like getting bumped and bruised by door ways, knocks from/around kids etc. I mean, given the design it more of a sport watch than a dress watch, and I know the cal 97x is a good movement, but how robust is the whole package? Have you had any problems with the Master Compressor line?

All I can say is that I use the Master Compressor Memovox as a daily beater.

 

It goes with me hiking, fish, diving, to the gym…

 

Of course it bears the marks of using but it wears it with pride!

Without particular problems.

Now, if you let it fall from the first floor, as any other watch, you may have issues, but in normal conditions, you would not  have problems.

A watch to consider, truly.

I wear mine for everything a daily beater must endure and then some. It swims with children, mows the lawn, gardens, bikes (mountain biking), goes fishing, hiking, does dishes, bathes children, changes diapers, goes running, weight-lifting, what else? It was the 1-watch I took with me to Disney World, and I have 2 small boys (now 2.5 and 1 year old).

Seriously, it is easily as robust as any Rolex sports watch--the polished case can accumulate scratches, and I have a ding or two and a few scuffs--but I have no worries about doing anything that will harm it. The movement and case are very rugged indeed (and with plenty of WR). I highly recommend the rubber strap as well--it's very well made, comfortable and perfect for any activity.

With all those kids the watch will be fine, but you'll need to be more robust for sure! Somehow my Dualmatic never seems to get as exhausted as I am at the end of a day...

the Master Compressor GMT, are the purest form of the Autotractor movement, which was 9 years in development. It is singularly the most robust movement ever produced by the Manufacture. I think it is a great watch, if you want it "pretty" (the Compressor has a nice bracelet with brushed & polished links, etc.).
BTW, you can also get this movement in the Compressor Diver GMT, the Reverso Grande Automatique, the Squadra Hometime (I really like the black dial on articulated rubber), and the Master Hometime/GMT.
