This is a question I wanted to submit to your sagacity, a question I kept in my tortured mind for a long time.

When we observe the current JLC collection, and especially the " affordable " category, we see that JLC offers a large offer of manual movements when it comes to the Reverso, but when we speak about the " round offer ", there is almost nothing, at the exception of the 8 Days manual movement housed in the Perpetual Calendar, or the Cal 849 housed in the Master Ultra Thin.

Most of the JLC watches between 5 and 15 K Euros are automatic.

Hence my question: Would you be pleased to see a new manual movement, nicely finished and decorated, in a watch which would be in a 7 / 12 K euros range?

What kind of complication would you like to see with such a manual movement?

One is the jumping hour and minute watch like this IWC pocket watch.



And another is an extremely long power reserve and extremely accurate watch like the Lange 31 but not necessarily that long. The JLC Master Fortnight, perhaps?

JLC already has a superb manual movement in the Duometre... I fear that your 2 suggestions will be way above the budget.

But, yes, there is something to work on, with these 2 ideas.

We already have that with the RDM... Which is an historical watch, but always was automatic.

Adapting it on a manual movement?

Would this be interesting?

I would love to se a JLC alternative to the A. L&S Richard Lange or the iconic IWC Portuguese Jubilee from 1993.

-round, 40 mm, thin bezel
-manual winding
-center or a generous small seconds hand
-simplistic dial
-huge balance, breguet overcoil
-high precision, chronometer rate
-35 hours power reserve
-high finish movement, lots of bridges
-see through case back
-steel or gold versions

Ok, the Geophysic could fill the bill, in this category.

A superb movement, nicely decorated AND finished.

A sublime dial.

A nice case, simple, yet elegant.

Then, it would be a good start for some later developments, as to balance the offer between the Automatic and Manual movements.

A kind of " Belle Horlogerie " but in a more affordable range, to coexist with the Automatic movements, which already have their fans.

That would be a 38 to 40 mm case, at least 10 mm thick, small (and I mean very small bezel), simple dial with small seconds hand at 6, silver or better enamel dial with applied numerals or printed romans 1 to 12, no date, slim hands (leaf-style?) and a highly decorated movement to be admired through a see through back. Thank you Santa!

... from JLC. I mean as you said, in the 5-15 K€ range, the "rounds" are only automatic. I guess that in this area the "automatic" function is something considered as a +, particularly when you compare to other brands (like Omega or IWC for example).

I learned quite not long ago that Reversos in this price range were only manual winding (except for Squadras I think). I always thought they were automatic.

Thus in my mind I tought "well, the Reverso is a classic dress watch, so it goes with the manual". Maybe a marketing pollution of my mind but that is how I felt at that time.

Usually you see Manual winding in high-end watches, to have a better overview of the caliber's finishing, whithout implying a too thick and heavy watch.

That is why, to me, it feels like weird to have a manual winding 5-15 K€ JLC watch.

But objectively, I don't see what could be wrong and I guess that a manual winding watch in this range, nicely decorated (it has to have a saphire back, otherwise I won't see the point) could be a good idea. I guess you were thinking about a Master control base, that would be a good extra model.

If the movement is nicely finished, well, yo say it in a trivial way " if there is something to see ", yes, it is, IMO, justified to get a manual movement in this range of price ( 6/ 12 K euros is some serious money, by the way ).

In this case, I woilmdn't see it as an alternative, but as a mandatory co existence...

a base movement with a slightly-longer power reserve (maybe about 72 hours) that could drive some small complications. JLC has done good things with their automatic base calibers and the master-8-day movement, but that is one big movement to add complication plates onto....

In AaronM's magic land, I'd like to see the double barrel of the Duometre movement adapted to work in parallel, rather then driving two separate mechanisms

My wish would be a “Tribute” to the Master Memovox Cal 914.

 

 

 

Am I predictable? YES!

 

 

A 38-40mm Memovox with manual movement (chronometer?!), open case back with nice finish on the movement.

 

Complications?

 

Well, as mentioned – Memovox.

 

An extra bonus would be powerreserve on the back (8 days?!).

 

And if JLC would go the extra mile – on/off or chime/vibrate on the alarm!

 

 

Intriguing question, my friend – fuel for our dreams!

For a Duometre à Alarme, I would do it!

Without any doubt.

And you don't know it yet, but you will do the same, because, like me, you're completely nut about the Memo.

This one will be, if JLC ever decides to release it one day, the cherry on the cake, the summit of the Alarms, the Nirvana of the Memovoxes.
