Hello JLC fans!

This is my first post on purists, so thought I'd drop in and say hello.  I've already been chatting with Blomman about his thoughts on various JLC models, he's such an asset to this forum and such a nice guy!

Some of you may know me from a large community of Panerai owners and originally I was thinking of selling my Datejust and little PAM48 to buy a 233. But then I realised that the 233 wasn't really for me.  Owning a lovely PAM like the PVD PAM360 made me realise that there was no other PAM I'd really like to own, it doesn't get much better than owning a 360 as far as Panerai is concerned (well within my financial world.. a 201/A would be nice). So here I am looking at JLCs.

About a year ago a local used watch dealer friend of mine handed me a vintage Polaris, he fired off the alarm for me and I fell in love.  I didn't really know what I was holding until I got home that night and googled 'vintage JLC alarm watch' and found what I was actually holding.  Then I realised how much they cost and my little heart broke then and there...  so the next step was searching for a likely modern version of the Polaris.  From there I got to love the Master Compressor Memovox and then started looking at Reversos... until about a week ago I found the Amvox 1 in SS and and thought 'oooh is that the one for me'???  

So basically I've come to be rather confused!  Compound that confusion to knowing that some of these watches I like are now discontinued and rarely seem to be offered for sale on the used market.

I work in a office environment, so a Reverso for me would be well suited.  I can see what I think is a Reverso Grande Reserve for sale at the moment on bracelet but can't help but think if I'm going to get a Reverso I'd like something with a bit more ooomph, by that I mean complications like the Grande Reserve Sun/Moon or the Date.. but yet again, something that rarely seems to go up for sale!

Yes, Blomman is a asset to the community, glad that you have our forum and JLC.  The great thing about JLC is that they offer since a nice range of pieces.  Since you are in an office environment, a Reverso is a excellent choice and with the engraving options, you can give it that personalized touch.   Have you considered the Tribute To Reverso 1931 LE's? Another option since you Panerai is to go for something like the NSA Incursion: jlc.watchprosite.com /

I'd probably avoid the NSA Incursion, I'm looking for something a bit sporty but also ok for the office. Maybe that would be a good 3rd JLC to add? uh oh

Where it is never an intention to confuse you but merely give you so much to choose from and each watch with such a strong unique appeal.

I definitely hear and feel what you are saying cos i face the same dilema as you; Amvox 1, Master Chrono, Reverso TT,...plus many more but sadly only can purchase one.

I am sure many others face the same too.....so you are not alone.

Thanks for your comments Gary. This is the best type of confusion for one to have isn't it? It's so much fun researching a new brand.. the hunt is even more fun, and then the waiting for the new watch to be delivered MORE fun again!

Then The Navy SEALs Alarm may also be an interrsting choice, but a bit bigger, which may not be a problem is you come from the Panerai world.



If you want a TT Polaris or a Grande Sun Moon Reverso, you may wait for the Polaris, but you will find it, and you may not have too many problems to find a Grande Date or a Grande Sun Moon.

Sometimes, it takes a bit of time to get what we want... And it is also part of our pleasure.

In addition I confirm all the nice things you have said about Blomman.

If you loved the Polaris and are sad that a lot of the similar watches you have seem (e.g., Amvox I) are discontinued, then there is one more model that you might consider and that might still be available.

I am talking about the Master Memovox International, it is a LE of 750 pices and the last ones are hitting the AD's as we speak so now is the time to look for one.

I have to say tho, that one doesn't really do it for me. In saying that tho, I'm pretty sure I saw one in the AD cabinet here

You have found a nice place full of helpful people and wait until you meet our esteemed Mod for JLC Count Vlad! I am sure he will chime in with helpful advise.

In the meantime, I would look at the "featured" JLC posts on the right column as you will find out more about the various pieces new and old.

Of course, Reversos and the Alarm function are hallmarks of JLC, along with their higher complications.

I recognize you from the Panerai forum! Like you, I started with Panerai and was essentially obsessed with them. I think I had Panerai blinders for the better part of a year and a half. I purchased a PAM 233 exactly a year ago, and it is still my favorite watch... for now! To be honest, I used to want so many PAM's it wasnt funny. After a while I found myself having interest in only a few Panerai's, 232, 349, 372, and perhaps in the future I will look forward to acquiring them.

After SIHH 2011, I started to take a closer look at JLC: its history, the different product lines, their unique qualities, and I must say I fell in love with the brand. I am waiting to get my first JLC, but have already put a deposit on 3!

I recommend the following:
- Tribute to Reverso 1931 (rose gold / steel)
- Tribute to Deep Sea (Europe / USA)
- Tribute to Polaris (hopefully I can find myself one also!)

As you can see, they are tributes so it has strong ties to JLC's history.

Other pieces you may want to consider are:
- Reverso Squadra Lady Duetto (seen it in person and it is a gorgeous piece with a nifty unique strap changing system)
- Master Memovox
- Master Ultra Thin Moon

Thanks for the well wishes some of the ladies Reversos are just gorgeous! I must say tho, I've not owned a ladies watch for about oooooh 11 years now! I figure when I get older that I might appreciate them again

Well as previously said, the AMVOX I or the MCM would really fit the bill.

 

Big, sporty and alarm… But both are discontinued…

 

 

So patience required to find the one, but it should not be too hard.

 

 

The International that George suggested is more dressed.

 

 

Since you like Panerai – the NSA (same size – 44mm) is a great watch!

 

 

If we go up in price range the Polaris sisters are for sure a very good option!

 

 

 

Another option is the Reverso.

 

 

The Squadra is the sportiest one, but there are so many models to choose from.

 

 

 

And of course – JLC offers a very wide selection of ladies watches…

 

 

 

Please take your time and if possible see them in the metal before making any decisions.

I'm 90% certain that I want either the MCM or the Amvox 1 as my first JLC. I think the case shape of the Reverso will be quite a different look for me and given I have a curvy wrist as opposed to flat, I fear the Reverso might take some getting used to. So as far as going the Reverso route.. I'd be better off with a entry level one down the track. But that doesn't stop me just loving the overall concept of the Reverso, I think they are just devine

So that's what I've decided... well for today at least! I may change my mind again.. womens perogative and all that!

34mm, the classic, the one that started it all and also the 38mm, 40mm if u ever fancy ultra thins.

i personally like the movement... and everything is "neat", straightforward and to the point. another plus side is it looks low-key and inexpensive. guess its all a matter of personal preference that suits ur character

Just to re- iterate a warm Hello & Welcome to this nice forum, which you will enjoy, I trust.

You have got many suggestions, but your likely choice of the Amvox 1 is a great one !

BTW, basically enough - how did you say - "oomph" but a great caliber, a nice functionality. In a way the type like
the Polaris, (a little friendly "beast" as well ), which is my absolute number 1, next to my proven classics
( the Master Geographique , the Master Moon and a Reverso Duo Face):

And that latter brings me to to a concur with a suggestion, as Bruce YVR just has given : maybe the Reverso Grande GMT is
The "Best Bang for the Buck" (as someone here had put it) , a great functionality, friendly complication,
2 totally different dials - check it out , one day.

So what to say - take what your heart and soul say - and you will be very happy..
And don't forget :
"The truth is always in the eye of the beholder", as well.

You can go for the Squadra GMT and get the extra crocodile strap to interchange.  It is extremely classy in the crocodile at the office.  Zap on the rubber for the summer months.  I do that on my Squadra.

I offer a pic of this one, only because it (and other Master Control series pieces) may meet your requirements:  A watch you can wear to work, but still has some weekend sportiness in reserve.  I think the bracelet does it.  This is the recent Dual Time model in 40mm.  Others are the "basic" Master Control, the Calendar and the Geo.  The newest models in this series do not come with bracelets (as yet).   Best of luck in your search,  Ken in NYC
