I wear my JLC only on weekends and for the rest of the days, it is just sitting idle running. Is it normal if the watch starts to consistently gain / lose time if it sits in the same position (eg. on side) for 5 or 6 days straight? say, gain 1 minute in a week? Thanks.

...which is not totally unheard of. Try resting the watch in a different position and see which offers minimal deviation in accuracy.

Now I think I should be looking at two other watches of mine: a Speedmaster and a Portuguese. Both are gaining probably 8 seconds a day like yours also but regardless of position or whether or not worn. The Speedy is due for an overhaul but I will not do anything to it for now if rate continues to be stable.

The 1000 hr control is supposed to be even stricter than COSC, Im not sure if it gets tested based on 1 position for a day, or rotating in different positions throughout the day and then the deviations gets measured...

The only watch in my collection which is more accurate is the Grande Reverso 976 at about +0.5 second a day. All my other watches are like +3 or +4 seconds a day with one exception being my 2009 Omega Seamaster Ploprof which loses 3 seconds every day right out of the box and until now.

Quite frankly, I don't care if my watch is off by 8 or 10 seconds a day as far as it gains and not loses time.

then your watch is fine as the rate and amplitude should be consistent in any one position.  As you can see from the Omega printout the rate and amplitude vary in different positions as you would expect due to the forces of gravity on the mechanism (of course tourbillons are designed to negate this effect).  Accuracy is normally given as the average rate taken over the five positions, so you could have a watch where it gains a lot when left in one position (and maybe more the the quoted average gain) but when worn it gains less over the same period of time.

I would re do the settings, which is normal, by the way, as even if it is adujsted to several positions, in the real life, it may change depending on the wearer's style of life.

So it is not anormal that after a while, you can see this. This is easy to set, of you give all the informations to the watchmaker.

But what JLC are you talking about?
