my two vintage buckles...

... just got some time leisure time to take out my collection and enjoy them, and realized two of my vintage watches come with vintage buckle. they both are 16mm in size, however they differ slightly in design, one has edge and another one is smooth out entirely. another cosmetic difference is that one has words (ACIER NOX DEPOSE SWISS) engraved inside back of the buckle while other one does not any word at all.

i remember Nico, Blomman and Clavi did show us some other types of buckles, but was just wondering did MJLC also produce other designs of these buckles in old days?

if anyone of you also has other vintage buckles out there, please show up your buckles here smile

I did some research on vintage IWC buckles recently and found the same design marked IWC where the JLC logo is on your sample. I think to remember that I also came across another brand using this type of buckle. Am I wrong to assume that this might have been a kind of "wholesale" buckle and that the manufactures did not pay too much attention to differentiation concerning buckles back then? 
Btw: Still looking for an IWC buckle (16mm) of that type....

Like everything else the design of buckles has followed the fashion and been very much the same for many of the major brands during the history.

The style that Nicolas is showing was used by several other brands including IWC.

 

Same with the applyed logo buckle...

 

If you think of the watches - for example Geophysic, Railmaster and Ingenieur.

Same period of time and very similar in case size and shape - and of course "complication".

And this aslo is showing in old ads from different brands - during the same period of time they are very similar...!

Same-same, but different!

Greetings,

I'm new to the forum but have been a regular reader of your interesting posts for some months now as they have been a great resource to learn more about the Memovox series. I've finally found a nice JLC one dating back to the early '50s so would like to add a correct bucke.

Am I right in understanding that those with the applied logo are from later on, approx. the '60?

Watch is 14k White Gold, buckle looks steel.  Strap and buckle are original to the watch.

JLC was using several different buckles during the 60's, 70's and 80's.

Here are some of mine - the first is pre 1960 unsigned.

 

Original starps are also a nice detail!

What's common with all I have found so far is that they are very thin.

Not thick, built up like today's straps.

 

BTW, did you know how to check what size you are?

Me, I am size "E"!

Not sure the first buckle you show are from the Pre 60ies, which would mean correct for the Geophysic and Parking...

in your first pic, the pre 60s unsigned buckle looks very interesting to me. its width looks quite large than that posted by pitpro. his buckle is also unsigned, but the width is much smaller than yours. so the question is that your is earlier than pitpro's one, or the other way round?

another item that interesting to me is the one to measure the size of strap to be chosen. i recall there is also English letter printed on those modern JLC straps. i think MJLC still carries on this measurement practice?!

Can anybody share a picture of a correct buckle for Futurematic (US version) made in 1954?

It should look something like this (from above), except in gold: 



US market LeCoultre straps of that era tended to be very tapered. 18mm/13mm (really, the equivalent in inches) were not unusual.  I have seem 16mm LeCoultre branded buckles like the one above, but they are very hard to find.

Many thanks for your reply and sorry for my late reaction. My Futurematic came with this buckle, which is clearly not original as no LeCoultre written on it. I wish to have the original buckle, but if it is so difficult to find, I might move to the one from 60s-70s.
