Planning to get my first and probably only Jaeger. Looking at Reverso because of its history with Jaeger.

Reverso calendar or grande reverso duo ? stainless steel for every day use. Must have the double fold clasp.  Once broke my Franck Muller with pin buckle ! Cost $3000  to replace crystal and hands plus a service in Singapore!

Other models at the same price range can be considered.

Owns a 2 tone gold just date, Franck Muller 2852 rose gold. Patek Ellisepe and GP vintage gyro.

 

It has, in the stainless steel version, the double fold clasp.

And it is a very original and beautiful Reverso.

My favourite, after the Red, which doesn't come with a double fold clasp.

Finally have decide on a grande reverso ultra thin duoface. 

The right size for me and in stainless steel. I like to thank every one for their comments.

This must have been covered.  Is Duty Free the place to buy ? I will be travelling to Japan and back via KL.  Australian resident.

the day/month windows are little small. I prefer the "big, bold" dials (both!!!) of the Duo-Date. Plus, it's 2 for the price of 1: silver, rectangular dial with date and seconds for day (a business watch), and round, black dial for night (with no seconds or date - as a true "dress watch" usually does).

Just my 2 cents.

I must confess though that the date is not the easiest/quickest to read in the market due to its small size.

Perhaps in the end it may come down to whether you prefer the dual time functionality from having a second dial on the Duo or the fine view of the movement from having the display back on the Calendar.



Any Reverso is a winner by my book. Good luck choosing yours.

Ah ! the Grande duo date is good too. the thickness is 10.7 compare to calender which is 10.2. not much diff. I suppose.

Thedecision will depends on the price and availability.  The duo date would be higher price .

But I believe it to be the newer generation 9XX caliber as opposed to the older generation 8XX caliber in the small size Duo (without the "Grande" prefix). The movement in the Grande Reverso Calendar also belongs to the latter family. It is fitted with an ornamental frame all around to fill the case space as you can see from the movement shot I shared.

Difference in case thickness between the two models is negligible. I have compared my Grande Reverso Calendar with a friend's Grande Reverso Duo. You will see the difference if you stare hard enough. But to all non-watch people the thickness will look the same and even to us the feel will be more or less the same when worn on the wrist.

If I'm not mistaken, the Grande Reverso Calendar is priced around 20% more expensive than the Grande Reverso Duo. Best is for you to check with your local boutique/dealer as I may be mistaken.

Choosing between these two watches will be a dilemma for you. Each has its own merits and unique character. Will it be possible to hold the two watches next to each other in your local area?

I do not think my local AD has both.  If Grande Duo Date is 20% cheaper, my choice is much easier !  lol

Reverso Duo date is no longer made, while Reverso calendar is still current.

Why would a manufacturer stop a model ? Is it like cars, to up date ?

Are there certain models that keeps going on.  eg. 10 yrs or more ?

BUT I do agree that some others have a too short life.

One example: The Reverso Memory, which most of us have forgotten, which is a paradox for a Watch with such a name.

It has been on the catalog for one year, maybe two!

I tried the grande reverso calendar and it is too large for me ! 48mm.

I have to try the grande taille now.  42mm.  What does TAILLE mean ?

The duo reverso is also 42 mm.

The Grande Taille is a beautiful and understated watch, of course, I'll probably be biased since my GT has been my daily watch for the last 5 years. It's quiet, understated, amazingly accurate and just fits well.

That is my plan, just getting one Jaeger.

I have a Seiko, Franck Muller, 2 vintage GP,  a PP Ellipse (gave to my wife, as it was too small) and a Rolex just date.

Only got interested in watches because of a friend.

Would love a Lange, PP and a Breguet. But they are out of my reach.

Have wasted money buying cars that depreciated too much ! Currently owns a 350 SLK and a E250 cdi.   So stick with these 2 cars and perhaps buy 2nd hand PP and Lange !  right ?
