I have recently sold my survivor and I am looking to buy a new watch. I now have the option of an RB1 (95% condition) and a Montoya Ti (100% condition), both are similarly priced with the Montoya $1000 USD more. I like both watches, the Montoya for the materials used and its durability, the RB1 as it was the watch that first started my interest in AP and the lower edition release. I am buying the watch to wear and although its not first priority, long term value/appreciation is a factor I would like to consider . At the moment its a very close decision and I would love to get other AP enthusiast's thoughts on which one they would choose and why?
Thanks all.

Of course, personal considerations override everything else - a personal connection to RB; the RBI being the first watch that piqued your interest in AP; etc.
But on the basis of the watch alone, the Montoya started the "evolution" of the ROOS that has resulted in the RBII, the Grand Prix, and even, arguably, the Survivor.
I do like the dial of the RBI, but I tend to prefer "special editions" to be a bit more than a unique dial with different colors or fonts.
JMHO.

Definitely the Montoya over the RB1 for me.

Thanks for all your input.
Ended up pending a little more and now have an RB2 TI instead - very happy! I will have to leave the Montoya and RB1 for another day.

Hi, mabanomy1,
I'm not sure how much of the idea came from RM, but I can tell you for sure that Octavio Garcia and his internal team did much/most of the conception and finalizing of the design.
Octavio actually told me he read and followed the initial NEGATIVE comments on our original AP forum quite nervously.
"I was about to cry" I think were his exact words...
But of course, it was such a radical departure from the original ROOS that it took ROOS fans awhile to wrap their heads around it, and of course, history since speaks for itself.
that when I walked into my AD, they happened to have a rose gold Montoya in stock that day for some strange reason. I looked at it, tried it on my wrist, and then whipped out the plastic. That was the best impulse purchase I've ever made!
I will always remember this Montoya as it qualifies as a "perfect" watch for me.
Looks fabulous on my wrist doesn't it?
