Agreed that the date setting is fastidious. But if the rest doesn't last too long...

There is no problem at all!

Agree with Nicolas - can't be much effort to sort out the time/date as required when worn! [nt]

needless wear

from being on a winder. I would not even set the date if I wore it one day a week. What makes the most sense to me is to rotate out of watches 2 weeks or a month or whatever and not worry at all about them during off wrist time. I keep my perpetual calendars  on the winding boxes supplied by the manufacturer. If the maker doesn't include a winding box you do not need one.

I could have written that!

I bought mine in January. I was working like a dream for about 20 days. In the end it did not work at all.

When I tried to put the watch on time and give power with the crown, the whole crown dropped off. To say it very mildly, I AM BLOODY DISAPPOINTED!

I know "this can happen with any watch". But I had similar issues with my QP except the crown is still in its place. Perhaps I should be happy for that...

would have felt the same

Definitely would have felt the same if the crown had dropped off. Even now, I'm a little miffed...

I had the same issue

 By: Arie - Mr Orange : April 8th, 2015-01:07
also when not on a winder. And the issues were there straight out of the factory seal.... So now, 3 months later, I just got the call that the watch is back. Wil keep you posted on its state of operating.

It was a disappointing start however and I did not expect it from AP. But I guess where people work faults can and will be made so let's see how it will function now.

Will be watching your updates with interest!

This is...

 By: Ed Watches : April 8th, 2015-04:05
terrifying. There are some reports on another watch forum about the date wheel not moving properly on the 15202. Without enterring into discussions about the historical value, tradition etc of the 2121, would a current buyer be better off with a modern 3120 watch? In perspective, does the 3120 tend to have more, less or the same frequency of functional issues as the 2121? Again, emotions apart... if possible smile

That really is an unacceptable

 By: emcquillan : April 8th, 2015-05:11

lack of performance, especially after reading numerous other service issues on this watch (2121) which is not inexpensive. Emotionally blind collectors will defend their brand without logical clear thought, but my best guess is AP will resolve your issues and the general issues with the movement. Unfortunately these things take time.

Watches are a passion not a need. Imagine if you had one, reliable luxury daily car and it kept breaking down. You sent it away for a few months and it came back only to break down again. We would all be quite upset and not buy that brand again.

All that aside, aesthetically your watch is beautiful and hope you receive a timely and satisfactory resolution.

Best,

2121 issue

I didn't have any problem with my 15202 for 8 years until last Dec. it ran slower than it should. I found out it had a stop & go issue. The hair spring & balance wheel were turning while the hands were not moving. I never put it on a winder for the last 8 years thought. I just got it back from service ( that was the first service for my 2121 for the last 8 years sad - my bad)  let's see how it goes!!!!

I also had an issue of my G series 15300 lately. Same as the 15202, I never put it on winder. The watch will run  perfectly for 2 or 3 days then it will stop running competely all of a sudden. If I shake it hard enough, it will start running again. I rule out the possibility of not winding it enough. I tried 30 turns & 40 turns & wearing it for 2 to 3 days consecutively. Now the watch is being tested at AP service center. I ll update on how it goes. Having said that, my G series Diver ( I believe it has the same caliber) has no issue whatsoever, it runs like a charm. So I guess it really depends......!

Man...

8 years! smile

My carbon diver sits on the same winder with no issues.

what a pity

For such a nice watch, AP should know this and do a re-call service free of charge. And most importantly they should build a value for money calibra, otherwise, AP spoiled our love on this great designed watch.

I do keep mine on a winder without issue.

 By: MichaelC : April 8th, 2015-07:49
I tend to agree with Nicolas though, and generally do not keep my pieces on a winder.  The 15202 I do, as the date corrector is rather old school and can take a while to adjust if you are off by more than a few days.

Not sure what kind of winder you use.  Mine holds the watch vertical.  I used to have one that the watches sat on an angle, and that one did not do as good of a job at winding certain movements.

I have had my 15202 Extra Thin about 18 months now, and have experienced no problems with it.  I feel for your situation, and the others who have replied.  It has become my favorite watch, and I doubt I would be able to feel that way if it had repeating operating problems :-(

For same reason,

 By: jjongkp : April 8th, 2015-08:00
I keep my 15202 on the winder, since it takes some time to adjust the date.

I use a Beuben & Zorweg winder which keeps the watch vertical. My carbon diver sits on the same winder with the same settings with no issues. Maybe I just got unlucky...

Sorry to hear about this -

& the unfortunate experience.

My intention isn't to give an opinion contrary to the 'gurus' on 15202 - it is a fabulous looking watch & the movement looks, serene - beautiful.

However, I had read about some issues, perhaps isolated, on 15202; this, the newer movement and the date mechanism led me to the boutique edition of 15400 which I picked up at the Geneva boutique a couple of months ago. I am quite content with my choice.

I hope your problem gets sorted out & the watch gives you pleasure and happiness.

Cordially

Mally

Disheartening to hear about this.

I always thought the 2121 calibre was a tried and tested reliable movement but obviously from the responses here it may not be.

I haven't noticed a problem with my 15202 but I shall monitor it more closely with extended wear to see if all is good. Don't use winders and often don't bother with setting the date either.

Cheers and good luck with the repairs!

I have one input

 By: 4Js : April 9th, 2015-15:28
while I don't yet have this watch, I have thought about it for a year. The 2121 movement is similar to the VC 1120. Only AP has added th date module.  I had postd a while back about the date setting. Since this watch does not hack, I really thought moving the hands back and forth to date change would have a detrimental effect on the movement. The older JLC movements hack, so changing the date is a non issue. Of course, the comment about the winder, and thus no date changing is needed could be a second problem.   No one ever definitively said why AP feels no harm without stopping the movement. Anyways. Good luck to all in resolving the issues. It still remains a beautiful watch

Disappointed as well

 By: ajferreira : April 9th, 2015-14:08
I have acquired mine 18 months ago and went back for service 4 times:

1 - a screw in one link become completely loose
2 - after being fixed, it came out, again
3 - after 6 months, it started to stop in the winder and then it loose time on the wrist until completely stopped
4 - January this year, it starts to gain 2-3 minutes a day... Sent it for service and the diagnostic was that I was right and the movement had a problem

I have it back, but only wore it a couple of times. So, still too soon to see if it is working fine or not.

A pity in such a beautiful piece and a totally different experience I have with another RO two tone I wear for the past 14 years.

AP, AP so close but then...

After reading about some of the issues here regarding the Jumbo (15202) I decided to retrieve mine from the bank and give it some wrist time. It felt and looked great without skipping a beat. It's been over 24 hours and appears to be running well, so I heaved a sigh of relief.

However, this afternoon, I found this on my desk:

Initially, I had no idea what it was and didn't have any idea where it came from. Someone had found it near my chair and placed it on my desk. I went out for lunch

wearing the Jumbo and it suddenly dawned on me and I looked at the clasp. It was a pusher which had dislodged itself with the screw missing. Luckily, the part is retrieved and I suppose it's an easy fix with the proper screw. I recall reading somewhere about this happening to others but forgot to check mine for tightness.

I hope this serves as a warning to others to take some precautions with perhaps using Loctite to tighten the screws.

Nevertheless, it's still a wonderful and enjoyable piece to own. smile

Thanks for looking.

cheers

fernando

Suspect movements...

 By: jeffreysaul : April 17th, 2015-08:54
I have a Royal Oak chronograph and had a similar incident myself, wore the watch for about three months
and one day it simply stopped working. AP replaced the movement and I've had no recurrence of this problem.
But it seems to me that I've heard this same scenario from more people than would seem to be normal.
An extremely expensive watch brand such as AP should not have these kind of problems.
