Hi all.
The screw holding the winding rotor on my BP Reveil came loose last month. Fortunately I was near a watchmaker who would be able to open the back of the case and resecure the screw. Unfortunately (and I still don't understand how this happened as I was watching intently the whole time) the screw disappeared.
One second it was in his tweezers and the next it was gone. I am now in search of this screw. I know it's a Frederic Piguet movement and have been searching the Internet and local watchmakers as well as their suppliers without any luck. I found several places who could supply me with various Frederic Piguet components but not any screws.
The AD wants $1500 for the "repair" which i think is a bit excessive and I simply can't justify it for a screw (I don't lay golden eggs).
Does anyone know where I might be able to source this screw from?
Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately Swatch group will not sell parts to indepedent watchmakers for brands above Omega. For simple items like this, it certainly makes things quite frustrating.
Your watchmaker should be the one looking for a new screw for you, as the loss was his responsibility. As to how it happens, well I've been there many times myself, where you hear the dreaded "ping" of the tweezers tips coming together as you are holding something. Spending time on your hands and knees looking for parts is part of every watchmaker's life unfortunately. I personally found switching to brass tweezers helped a lot as they have less spring and tend to hold on more securely, and things don't fly as far when they occasionally do take off.
No doubt your AD is including a full service in that price, or they should be for that sort of money.
Sorry I can't help with a parts source - as a watchmaker I can't even get parts to fix my own Blancpain. Your watchmaker should be able to find a suitable screw (or make one) that would at least let you wear the watch until it goes in for a regular service, when the screw would be replaced.
Hope this helps.
Cheers.
Read your story and have you ever tried to get in touch with Blancpain? Maybe they are able to help you on this. Should not be a too big issue, IF only the screw needs to be added. Nevertheless, do not forget, once the case is opened, the case back gasket should be exchanged, too, just to make sure it is tight again.
If you first want to stay local, you can check with Swatch Group Canada or then with Swatch Group US. I did have positive contact with both subsidiaries.
The watch is a Leman GMT Reveil, in steel. Ref#2041-1130M-71.
I'm been unable to attach a photo so please have a look at the link below. It's a fairly high resolution view of the movement. I have lost the blue screw at the center that holds the winding rotor...
I am with you on REAL service. I find that in Europe there is much more of an appreciation and a kinship between people who appreciate the same things that makes people help each other. Here in North America it is much more about showing wealth and superiority and people are not as knowledgeable (because they have no REAL interest). This leads to very poor service if they don't immediately see some kind of monetary gain. Of course I am generalizing, but it certainly seems to apply to my local dealer.
Please let me know if you have any result. It is much appreciated!
It is pretty much as I expected. I will wait until a service is due.
Thank you.
