Dubai - October 19th – 22nd, 2015
Chopard took part in the Dubai Watch Week through a discussion forum about the Art of Horology. For one week, the forum brought together keen watch collectors, industry professionals and top watch brands to discuss current topics. The Art of Horology Forum was held for the first time in the Middle East. Key topics debated included Independence, Expertise and Transmission of Knowledge; subjects that Chopard is keen about.
The forum took place at the Empty Quarter gallery in Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC); also the location where Dubai Watch Week presented other activities.
Dubai Watch Week
Under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, in association with Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG), organised Dubai Watch Week, a global event and non-commercial fair dedicated to the craftsmanship and innovation in the watch industry.
Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons is the Middle East’s most prominent retailer of luxury watches and jewellery, representing more than 60 brands across a retail network of 65 locations in the UAE. Established in 1950, Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons is recognized among the leading retailers in the region, advising and enabling both established and emerging watch enthusiasts to increase their passion and understanding of the art of watchmaking. Like family-run Chopard, the passion of the second, third and fourth generation of Seddiqi family members deliver a commitment to preserve and grow the tradition of watchmaking.
“The Adventure of Building a Manufacture” by Karl-Friedrich Scheufele
On the first day of the Art of Horology Forum, Chopard Co-President Karl-Friedrich Scheufele hosted a discussion entitled: “The Adventure of Building a Manufacture”.
In 1996, he founded Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier, embarking on his vision of a vertically integrated company. Today, Chopard Manufacture creates ultimate fine watchmaking timepieces mastering numerous skill sets like conception, research and development, decoration and watchmaking. Chopard manufacture is now proud to be a genuine Haute Horlogerie manufacture, producing the exclusive L.U.C watch collection.
L.U.C Collection: Exclusive Exhibition at The Dubai Mall
Concurrent with the Art of Horology Forum and in collaboration with long term partner Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons, Chopard exhibited timepieces from the L.U.C Collection at The Dubai Mall.
I know next to nothing about the Middle East except what I gather every time I transit through Bahrain (1970s), Dubai (2000s) and Doha (today).
One should not ignore impressions derived from airport terminals; they are oases of distilled culture and relationships.
It would be interesting to get feedback from watch collectors and industry people outside the airport cocoons.
Is it all about platinum cases and diamonds?
