Chopard

I was typing away yesterday, looked at my watch and the second hand had fallen off! You can see it lying upside down... White side of the arrow up.

As far as I remember this isn't really a big deal right? And that a watchmaker can fix this pretty easily?




Anyway... Good excuse to take out the old classic - nice to give it some air!

I think a decent independent should be able to sort this out easily enough.  Bit of a shame though.

On the other hand (excuse the pun), the Omega is nice.

Yes, the old Omega doesn't get much air these days... But I like the sword hands... Their size and shape is appealing and suits the design.

I must be a lucky guy.  (But not lucky enough to win the mega lottery, apparently!    )

After hundreds of watches, I've never had a seconds' hand fall off.

95% of my FP Journe and Roger Dubuis watches developed faults that needed returns to Geneva but even they did not have a hand detached.

There was a "sticking" seconds hand that rubbed against the underside of the sapphire glass but that was an easy fix, as is your problem.

In practice, this is Watchmaking 101 so any competent watchmaker can do it but I like to send back to Chopard because they have the tools and parts. They also have the motivation...it's their baby.

Repair times for simple jobs like this on modern Chopard watches are now very short.

If you are within range of "civilisation", the turnaround is 14 working days. It may as well be serviced.

I am a medical researcher and statistics is my biggest enemy    but also my friend.

How else can we continue to sell dodgy drugs with the approval of the FDA, EMEA, MHLW and other health authorities, if it were not for the "power" of statistics?  There is always another confirmatory study to do....

In this case, it is a simple and true statement: 95% of MY FP Journe and Roger Dubuis watches developed faults; some even before I bought them. All were direct from authorised dealer.

Yet, I was stupid enough to even buy a couple when the fault was noticed in the showroom.  I paid full price for them and they went straight back to GVA for repair before I got them again.

Now that I read PuristSPro, I would not do that again 

See? This website does some good education.

People always ask which one watch was trouble-free:  FP Journe Tourbillon Remontoir...Thank God!

PS.  I never tell lies. That is a fact as well.  I did it once, as a child at a Catholic school but never again.....it's a different story.

Also would love to hear that school story Lolol! I've been lucky... Owned only double digit number of watches, and have never, until now, had anything happen.

No... That's not true... My old UN Sonata had a problem straight from the AD... Brought it home. Set the alarm. And Lo and behold, no alarm! Told him to take it back and that was that. Full refund.

Yeah... just dropped it into the AD in Budapest... asked for a full service as well. Thanks for the advice and I love the brown strap on your Mille Miglia... am seriously considering getting one too.

Those usually fit quite securely when installed for the first time. Any competent watchmaker should be able to put it back, just they need to be careful to support the movement correctly (maybe 1-2 day turnaround just to be safe). The hand may need to be tightened too.

All fixed with absolutely no scratches anywhere. The AD told me that no service was needed as the watch is keeping good time. He just fixed the second hand - didnt take long.
