Diane Kruger, the winner of last year’s Best Actress award at Cannes Film Festival, will be awarding the Trophée Chopard to the laureates of this annual distinction, presented to the budding talents of the film industry. The ceremony will be held at the Martinez Hotel on the 14th of May 2018. Under the aegis of the Cannes Film Festival, this award perpetuates the ongoing love story between cinema and Chopard – official partner of the Festival since 1998.

As the historical partner of the Cannes International Film Festival, the Maison Chopard – under the influence of its Co-President and Creative Director Caroline Scheufele – has consistently affirmed its unconditional love of cinema. Each year, the Trophée Chopard, created in 2001, highlights the up-and-coming generation of the international film industry and shrewdly wagers on the talents of tomorrow by rewarding both a young actress and a young actor who are ready to shine on the silver screen.

From Audrey Tautou to Marion Cotillard, who won an Oscar in 2008 for her performance in Olivier Dahan’s La Vie en Rose; from Léa Seydoux to Adèle Exarchopoulos, the lead actresses Blue is the Warmest Colour with whom the director Abdellatif Kechiche shared his Palme d’or in 2013; along with Shailene Woodley, Ezra Miller and John Boyega, actors who have triumphed both in indie movies and in blockbuster productions: all these laureates have confirmed their promise by embarking on brilliant life-changing careers.

A tailor-made jury

Among these former prizewinners, German actress Diane Kruger – who received the award in 2003 and also won last year’s Best Actress award in Cannes for her role in Fatih Akin’s film In the Fade – returns to the Croisette this year as patroness of the prestigious Trophée. Following in the footsteps of Charlize Theron who officiated at the 2017 edition, she will present the 2018 laureates with this prestigious distinction resulting from votes cast by the Trophée Chopard committee. This year, for the first time, the jury will be slightly different from those of previous years, notably including not only Caroline Scheufele and Steven Gaydos, Steeve Gaydos, Executive Editor of Variety magazine, but also former prizewinners and patrons having actively contributed to the history of the Trophée, such as Julianne Moore, Isabelle Adjani, Juliette Binoche, Ludivine Sagnier, Helen Mirren, Paz Vega, Léa Seydoux, Astrid Berges Frisbey, Marion Cotillard, Blanca Suarez, Colin Firth, Niels Schneider and George MacKay. A fine symbol of transmission between experienced actors and young hopefuls. The ceremony, to be held on Monday 14th May in the Martinez Hotel, will be hosted in person by the Director of the Cannes Film Festival, Thierry Frémaux.
