Is this basically a LUC model now?
This seems (to a novice like me) to be the LUC micro rotor... does that make this basically a LUC alpine eagle? I am guessing this explains the increase from ~14k usd to ~22k?

You might well be right. But wait, I discovered a new Montblanc Minerva which is worth some consideration.
I didn't like the aged metal case. But that's just me personally. The movement is great. Not sure about the fluted bezel.

Hmm. The bezel looks kind of larger than the ideal proportion on those. But might have to see those in person to make a final verdict.
And this case, while spec at 41mm, really wear more like 39mm in the flesh. It’s not big!
